Koreas 'to tackle nuclear concerns'

North and South Korea have agreed to resolve international concerns over the North's nuclear weapons programme through dialogue.

The announcement in a joint statement followed three days of intensive discussions in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

"South and North Korea will make joint efforts to maintain peace on the Korean peninsula, and will actively pursue dialogue to resolve the nuclear issue and other problems," it said.

The BBC's Charles Scanlon says that South Korea had originally wanted the North to accept earlier agreements to give up its nuclear weapons programme, while the North, for its part, wanted to blame United States hostility for its action.

But despite failing to achieve such an explicit agreement, South Korean Unification Minister Jeong Se-hyun said that the agreement was a positive step.

"It is significant the North has listened sincerely when we conveyed worries the North's nuclear programme raised among Korean people and international communities," he said.

"In other times, the North would have defiantly rejected such comments."

Hey, Seoul thinks it's so big and bad w/ that Olympic stadium. Well, how bad will it feel like when the stadium is ground zero for a well-deserved last word from NK.

I say last word cuz the retaliatory strike followed by any other retaliatory strikes may just end the world. And them missionaries said Jesus was supposed to come first. :(

kidding, if their is a conflict im signing up, because those are our brothers and we should go and fight for their freedom and the freedom to have hyundai's and samsungs.

even better then a giant mech would be just mowing down north koreans w/ JDAM type bombs and other advanced weapons, becuse korea is a pretty good battle ground for a conventional warfare tactics because it doesnt have too many forests and the united states could use its heavy armor and mechanized artillery. U know kinda like a test ground for new technology and new ways of fighting.

but optimumly giant mechs (from japan) rumaging through mowing down the commies, im sure alota south koreans would be game for that. :unsure:

But I don't see conflict.

Why is it so bad if NK has nuclear weapons?

Who is the US to say that they shouldn't? The US must first get rid of its own nuclear arsenal before it can point the finger at someone else.

nah everyone should have nukes and in developement anti-matter weapons and beam weaponry (particle/ laser missile defense), but the catch should be we can only fight and use that shit on each other in space. W/ giant mechs and transforming battleships/ starships of course. Ever notice in Robotech its called a euphamism of Reflex warheads and missile, but in japan in macross its called "reaction" weaponry or the accursed reaction weapons...by the zentradi aka. Nuclear Reaction weapons. Ever wonder what those Vf-1 valkeries fired at the zentrade in that big battle. Nukes lotsa nukes. thats how they really won the war w/ zentradi. Good idea nuke each other in space no worries for earth then our magnetic field repels.

well, gotta say i agree w/ you on that. what else excuse can we have to use giant mechs? interplanetary settlement is way past our lifetimes. :(
