Came across this web site for a "high school" newspaper and was impressed by the design and content.

How's yours match up?

At the college level, I think the Daily Cal does a fairer job at reporting local news --

Than Berkeley's free paper.

my HS's online publication. when i was there, we were just starting to publish online. it was pretty well-respected (yup, award-winning) and most of us who were on the staff practically lived in that room (and the dark room, for photographers) at all hours of the day, sometimes pulling all-nighters to finish.

i don't know too much about my high school newspaper and my college newspaper other than the two papers share the same name.

oh and none of it was online when i was there. the internet was still in the primordial stages when i was in college.

the daily bruin newspaper is full of neo-conservatives who think they're liberal.

I was wondering which free newspaper you were talking about. I've only been there a year so maybe that's why, but Daily Cal itself is the only one I came across.

oh  never mind. I realized that you must have been talking about the City of Berkeley's paper. In which case I completely agree.

hey! i'm working for them now, advertising account exec.

so far it's been real fun. we're a completely independent student-run paper, so the atmosphere is super chill. best part-time job i've ever had.

Interesting content from a web site devoted to controversial kid news.

Article about the controversy their paper has caused:

Ithaca High newspaper battles censorship (http://www.ithaca.edu/ithacan/articles/0503/03/news/7ithaca_hi.htm)

The censorship of a cartoon in the February edition of Ithaca High School’s student newspaper, the Tattler, has incited debate regarding First Amendment rights.

Editor in Chief Rob Ochshorn, a senior, said the paper’s relationship with the school changed when the administration imposed new guidelines for the Tattler at the end of January.

“The district says the Tattler’s function is to teach students about journalism,” Ochshorn said. “We are saying the function is to provide an outlet for student expression.”
