Hi everybody.
That's so cool! Glad to know there are leaders of Asian groups in college joining YW. I was President of the Asian Student Coalition for three years. Do you have a website about your group?

i'm a lamer, i was on the *APILC and **APCW planning boards. no REAL position accept as another voice of a general position. -_- if i had time, i would apply for positions (that's my excuse, not a good one, but it IS one ^_^)

that's really cool tho. kinda making me wanna start dedicating my time to getting back in those org's and doin something that requires REAL work.

*APILC: Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Committee
we take about 80 (i think... ) asians out to an area where we have a 3-day summit that promotes unification and strength in the asian community, make them aware of current issues in the community, and to help them find who they are. we bring in lots of speakers and stuff, cool shitz.

**APCW: Asian Pacific Culture Week (Planning committee)
We put together a week of events and speakers in the asian community and encourage all races to participate and help bring not just unification in the asian community, but the student community at large. we bring in singers and sororities and frat groups participate and have contests and other stuff to help involve more people and attract attention.

damn, after writing all that i really wanna go back and bust my butt in those committee's.

How easy or difficult is it to get key speakers to come to your campus? I'm trying to find a keynote speaker. Should I talk to another officer in your organization who handles that? Btw, I highly respect what you and your group is doing to raise awareness about the diversity inherent in Asian American culture.

Well... we've had some decent speakers. We might (pray, pray) get Margaret Cho next semester.

Just make sure you have all your bases covered and get a budget together. DON'T SIGN CONTRACTS until you have money. I've had some pretty decent experience so far. If you want help, just PM me or something.

Wow, it was definitely in the old days when getting Margaret to come speak at your school was practically mandatory because she was so available...good for her.
