Should you give a present to a teacher whose giving writing you a personal letter of recommendation?

How about a teacher whom you personally respect and that helped you grow throughout your academic career?

if you really like them you can give them a card i tihnk...but for recs, if you give them a present, it might make them feel uncomfortable, cause it'll seem like it's a bribe.

good point about the bribe.

But bribes are usually an expensive item which forces the teacher to write good things about you. I was thinking about a book.

presents are fine. in the case of rec letters, be sure to allow for some time for the letters to be written to avoid the "bribe" quality; and if it hasn't been written yet, it will act as a "reminder" for them to finish up.

ohh...a book's different...cause no one actually enjoys getting a book, and besides how expensive can they get? but yeah i think a book is a tasteful choice.

or you can be really chinese and give them a sack of oranges.
