I've been putting off replacing my starter for a few weeks because it has been working predictably, but just this wkd, my starter just acted up like crazy.
12:30 am saturday night, i just finished filling up on gas. i go to start the car, nothing. i hear a slight click coming from the starter. i'm thinking dammnit, not again. not now! for the previous 2-3 weeks, i've been able to hit my starter with my prybar and start up my car no prob. but today, the banging wouldn't help. and of course this had to come at the most perfect time, late at night when i was tired as hell. good thing i have a manual. so what do you do if this happens to you? well first off, you have to have a manual because u can pop the clutch (something you can't do with an automatic, which has a torque converter). next you will have to push your car ( with some assistance) while in neutral, then jump in, hit the clutch put it into second gear (why not first gear? just cuz second gear is easier because of the gearing) release the clutch hard and turn the key, a lil bit of gas will help the engine hit idle rpm quicker and coax the car back to life. it's kinda fun to do, just don't get discouraged, if it really is the starter that is the problem, it will start up sooner or later =).
on a side note, if you do have starter problems, and you have to go somewhere, park your car on a hill (faced down hill of course) or some place with a slight incline so you can just roll your car and pop the clutch by yourself.
most of you probably know about popping the clutch, but for those that don't know, just some FYI. message me if i was unclear in anyway.
