mmmm.... ducati. I agree. Lately, I've been scaring myself by going over to the dark side: BMW bikes. I'm turning into such yuppie trash.

But crusiing a BMW with full leathers would be niiiiiccceee.

bmw isn't bad. the r1200c is a nice touring/cruiser type that I’d consider. the r1150gs has dirt bike appeal. i'm a sucker for cafe racers though

I would have gotten a bike a long time ago but I know the way I ride my mountain bike and the way I drive my car... so I am never going to get one because I want to LIVE.

Hah, I hear that. I totally end'oed downhill the other week. Shoes wouldn't release from the clips and I was like a frickin' circus acrobat.

I endo'ed many years ago when I was really young. I've learned the wonders of brake modulation since that time. I've also developed a fear of endo'ing which I cannot kick till this day.

i'm more scared of the mountain bike than street traffic. i use to do the down hill races but i eventually saw the evolution of my bikes. started off with the fatty tires and the heavy frames. then the shocks came along and then the moto brakes (hydraulic even). soon all the parts were equalling the cost of a good motorcycle. so now the feel of a 1000 cc engine just feels nice, don't have to rely on a controlled fall down a hill.

An acquaintance of my roomie has a Vespa shop, and I kind of always wanted one -- just to jet around in when running quick errands and stuff. But they all -- even the older, restord ones -- start out at $2500. And that's a bit pricey for something that's just a scooter.

ducati, huh? like HH said, mmmmmmmmmm.

i want a motorcycle, too. but my cousin's friend died in a motorcycle accident last year, so i doubt my mother would ever agree to letting me get one.

my dad on the other hand, i know he's had his share of badness. a few bikes, different cars, a porche! what happened pops? you used to be so cool..

driving home from school last week, we were turning onto the street from the freeway offramp when we saw a chubby white guy riding a skooter/m0-ped really fast, with a fat wedgie. it was classsic!

Everybody I know with a bike doesn't want one anymore. Well, it's cool to have one, just as long as it's not your ONLY form of transportation. What do you do if you want to go get some groceries? Or go shopping? Or what if it rains? Then you better hope you have a car as well. My friend recently got into a bike accident. It was bad. Bike accidents are the type you usually won't walk away from...

Yeah, if you want one that's restored and runs properly. They can be had for about half that, if you're willing to do your own work. Me, I don't have the time.

Plus, don't be too excited. Now I'm yuppie trash.

The safety thing I’m a bit apprehensive about. Two of my cousins were killed on bikes, ~4 years apart, they were harley guys. I know I’m a good rider but I see so many bad drivers in Chicago. Don’t want to end up as a grease stain on the road. Maybe install an extra loud muffler just for the extra audible notice for the cars.

If you want a cool bike that is not a sportbike or cruiser I would say go with "naked" sportbike like the Honda 919, Suzuki SV1000/650, or Ducati Monster. Not having a fairing will help keep your speeds down on the highway.

Cheers,
Jookie

Yeah, it's a safety thing. My bro almost died hitting something slippery on the floor on the freeway. My friends friend had an accident in SF while riding with his buddy. The first rider went through a tunnel at high speeds and his buddy that lagged behind saw that he got into an accident. The second rider went through the tunnel and picked up his buddy's helmet. When he lifted it up, he saw his friends head inside his helmet. The first rider probably fell, bounced and hit the railing for the pedestrian walkway.

I just wiped out yesterday. It was dark, tires were not warmed up yet and I think there was gravel on the road. Luckily I wasn't really hurt, just a little bruised and a little sore.

I love riding, but this is a little wake up call, those damn things are DANGEROUS.... I'm too much of a knuckle head though, so I know I'll be on it again before too long. Wear leathers and always wear a helmet!!!

Dunno about bikes man. Always been a car kinda guy. Thinkin' of getting an RX-7 or GT3000. Or Impreza.

Well, I don't learn anyway. So if I did ride a bike, I'd injure myself black and blue until I died.

Thanks Jookie. I was lucky, thank God I wasn't going too fast or another car wasn't coming the other way - sheesh!

Augh...that image will keep me from getting a bike anytime soon. Wouldn't mind getting a decent sportbike if I could afford the insurance on both the bike and my car though.
