mission statement or "about us"

I would like to see a mission statement or an about us section. something a little more than "... helping Asians kick ass..."

And does that have to be phrased that way? Personally, I hate anything that makes it easier for people to stereotype other people. It is bad enough that every movie I've seen with an Asian person in it involves martial arts.

why yes AB owns the sight and he wants to help ppl kick ass. chip in for the bill have more say =X jk. but ya thats the webmasters personal thing.

nicedream, thanks for joining YW. We did have an "About" section but it's under construction right now...but here's a blurb:

Yellowworld.org, an online community portal dedicated to the cultivation of a collective Asian political and social consciousness.  By fostering positive interaction and relationships, we seek to provide a medium in which the distinctions of ethnicity, class and self-interest are buffered by a foundation of trust, responsibility and respect.

Let me reassure you, I'm familiar with your concerns regarding stereotypes, but the statement "kick ass" has nothing to do with martial arts. If YW were intended for a broad audience, I think your concerns might be more applicable, but since YW is focused on Asian issues, hopefully we won't misunderstand each other too much.

I know you didn't have any intentions of connecting "kicking ass" to martial arts... but it still appears that way. Maybe I'm too sensitive. I just don't like it. My $ 0.02.

Become an active member of the site and maybe your opinions about what needs to be changed with the site will be weighted a bit more.

Don't just walk through and say what's wrong with it.
