I ran across a list of the people who will be attending Pope John Paul II's funeral this Friday.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=615&ncid=2357&e=3&u=/nm/20050406/pl_nm/pope_funeral_dc

The presidents, prime ministers, and monarchy of just about every country. And the leaders of the Anglican and Orthodox Churches.
Bush I and II and Clinton. They literally had no room for Carter.
14 Senators including Frist, Santorum, Ted Kennedy, and Kerry. 23 Representatives including Dennis Hastert, DeLay, and Pelosi.

I found these interesting...
IRAN - President Mohammad Khatami (The leader of an Islamic theocracy is attending the pope's funeral?)

BANGLADESH - Food and Disaster Management Minister Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf (Did they really have no one else to send?)

SPAIN - King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero (Spain has a monarchy?)

Nah, with everyone around the world praying, any WMD would just bounce off the divine force field. Shaped like the Hand of God.

So who's Iraq sending? =D

And yeah, Spain is a constitutional monarchy.

Quoted from islam-online.net, "CAIRO, April 3, 2005 – Muslim scholars and leaders from the four corners of the world were united Sunday, April 3, in praising late Pope John Paul II’s tireless efforts to build bridges of confidence between the Catholic Church and Islam...The late pope spearheaded a campaign over the past two decades to promote cooperation between the world Muslims and the Catholics.

'He was also right at the forefront of the protest against the war on Iraq,' said Malaysian political analyst Chandra Muzaffar. 'That showed he was committed to global justice and peace.'"

It seems like Bush and his preemptive-strike-on-Iraq supporters might be the ones feeling out of place.

Aye. I found Bush being there even more funny than President Mohammad Khatami.

The Vatican has some of the most highly skilled, heavily armed security forces in the world. I'm not worried about security at this function. They'll take care of it.

Holy shit. That's cool. Like commando knight templars. No wait, D20 modern paladins. Maybe I will go back to church. I wonder if they have guns.

There are the celemonial Swiss Guards with their jester's uniforms and there's the ones with the guns in suits. The Vatican is tight-liped about details but there was a National Geographic special on the Vatican and the Swiss Guards had MP5's.

The Knights Templar was disbanded a looooooong time ago with most of the members joining the Order of Malta to continue the Crusades. The Order of Malta hasn't engaged in military activity since Napoleon and today is just an ultra-exclusive club doing humanitarian work.

So will He give the guards a free pass if they smoke some guy trying to kill the Pope?

Heckler & Koch should be all over this in their ads.

"Jesus prefers HK. So should you."

or

"Good enough for God. Good enough for you."

John Kerry was there too, I think.
