Hello Happy People,

I volunteered and the company are sending me to work in New York for up to 6 months. Thing is, I don't know anyone based there. I might take advantage of my stay and travel around during the weekends - but I'm thinking I could get bored during the week.

Are there many New Yorkers on this website? Do people socially meet up here - and is anyone keen to do so?

I'll be coming over 11 April and will be based in Manhattan.

When i first joined, I forgot that I had joined and then introduced myself again.

I live in nyc, but I'm up to here with homework, and that's pretty damn high.

Erm, yeah! I think I registered on YellowWorld before the revamp. It takes too much energy to contribute and participate in more than one forum - and I've been busy involved on another British Asian (Oriental) forum instead.

Welcome blob! <3

I went to New York once, when my brother and I were 10 (summer of 2000). It was a great, great place. I ate a pretzel there yumyummm, saw street dancers and musicians, experienced a shooting, went into the world trade center, visited a church (cathedral), went on a tour bus where we were the only asians - everything was a first-time experience. I got a really strange feeling in my tummy when we were at the airport: we could see New York's skyline from the window we were standing next to - and it was sort of an exploding feeling you get - that sudden upsurge - We're here! That place, hey, there's the Statue of Liberty, the stuff you see in the movies! It was such a warm-felt feeling, I wanted to trap it and never let go.

Although I do remember embarrassing myself one too many times. We were eating fries in McDonalds, and I had to wash my hands in the bathroom. This particular restaurant in Manhattan was really tiny, and so it only had one bathroom: not seperate stalls enclosed within one room. So everytime someone came out, I tried bolting open the door (not realizing that somebody was still in there!) and the group of people standing in a queue would push me back and tell me to stand in line. Not until the fifth person came out, did I realize that this bathroom only had one flush. But by then my hands were salty; and so were my cheeks because I had started to cry ;_;

hehe, it's great being a tourist.
