Right now I'm paying about $60/year, a very good deal considering the amount of space, features, etc. I'd say a solid host would probably run around $150/year, but let me get back to you on that.
If anyone has any good hosts to refer, please post them here...!

3 friggen hours!! 3 friggen hours the website was down. Christ!
I just finished chatting with the folks over at Apollo Hosting (http://apollohosting.com). Check out their website, let me know what you guys think. I was immediately impressed that they had 24/7 chat support (which is actually hard to find amongst hosts, and I was just browsing through their site).

very expensive!
I doubt you'll ever need 24/7 chat support, unless you're a [i:ea9e4208f9]complete[/i:ea9e4208f9] idiot.
Hosts like http://www.phpwebhosting.com/ and http://trivaya.com/ are much better value :)

What are you talking about? It's $15/month for 200mbs of space. The plans you listed are for like 20 megs!

If I wanted to stick with an okay host that was fairly cheap, I'd stick with the one I have. They're actually not too bad -- they just can't guarantee uptime and getting a hold of them takes about a day. Trivaya actually uses the same helpdesk software that ehost does (PerlDesk) and I *hate* it!
Another great thing about Apollo is that it has its own bulletin board, which a lot of the other hosts don't have the balls to put up.

Well ok so I have no experience of Trivaya, but last time I looked phpwebhosting offered you 125MB of space.
Hosts that have rubbish uptime are the worst ones there are. I have a phpwebhosting account and I'm very happy with it. I have never needed any support from them - the only time I became even slightly confused about them is when I wanted to transfer a domain name to use their DNS servers, and that was mostly my registrar's fault.

So the uptime is pretty good with your host?

www.adgrafix.com
99.9% uptime, cost a little more, but their WebsiteManager software is great. I used them when I was developing sites in the late 90's. They're still around and going strong since they are also www.hosting.com which recently bought Virtualis Systems in the L.A. area.
...sorry u had a rough day achtungbaby...your still the best master, super, brilliant, talented, dedicated,....lovable...bestest forum admin/host in the whole wide yellowworld.xoxo

That's the thing, I'm only paying $5 a month (did you say $9 a *year*...??) for the current plan but our host sucks. Always down.
Oh yeah, I'm sure you'll all be happy to hear that yestereday we went over our bandwidth limit for this month. Our bandwidth "cycle" ends on 7/9 and then we start fresh.

"Us" meaning who? You and AB? If you want me to "invest," I'm down with that but I'll expect some sort of "return" on my "investment" since "we're" going to be rich.=) On the other hand, I'm just as willing to donate a little bit of cash...

I got this email for our host today:
[quote:106b014f6e]...I know that the server you are on right now is having lots of downtime, its only this server , believe me I know how you feel. This is what I will do for you, I will add additional 1 gig transfer for no charge atall. We are examining the server this week for hardware. The reason we are prolonging this is because, testing hardware means downtime, and we are trying to see if there is any software issue first.
We do have 100% uptime on all server except server 2 :((
After 2 weeks we will have round the clock 24/7 live chat support. I appreciate your patience. You bandwidth is increased to 1 gig as of today and please desrgard my previous email and the server notices, which are automated and cannot be disabled.
If you require any additional information or we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us at: http://support.ehostpros.com[/quote:106b014f6e]

Oh, yippee, we're back online after being down for over 8 hours. I was informed by our host that they're doing all sorts of restoring and modifications to our server -- nice of them to let me know beforehand!

I just posted a request over at webhostingtalk.com (http://www.webhostingtalk.com) -- that place is THE SHIT for finding a good deal on new hosts. Screw any of other way of finding a good host that you've heard of -- practically all of the site admins for these hosts are members and posting over at that forum. You can check out the thread of my post here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60700).
