anyone see this movie? (with jet li) I wrote a whole paper on why i thought this movie was racist.
Not really because the chinese were bad guys. Mostly because of that one scene were mel gibson walks into the restaurant with Uncle Benny.. and starts making Chinese noises.. or implying that he doesn't speak english or something.. Maybe someone else can recap better the scene..
i odn't really remember, it was a couple of years ago..
My argument was that since mel gibson (hero of the movie) does, it encourages young people.. that it is ok.
anyone else? am i over reacting??

What I hated was at the end the two guys ended up stabbing Jet's character in the back. My husband doesn't subscribe to a lot of Asian American views because he's more overseas Chinese than Chinese-American, but even he called Lethal Weapon 4 'Yellow Peril'.
It was also weird when the scared Chinese family moved in with Danny Glovers' family and he gave the dude the watch. Why would he just give the guy a watch like that? Who knows, I've never seen the movie since and I'm glad I forgot most of it.

apart from all that. Boy was 'Jet Li' bad ass. Kickin butt left and right. The ending was so sorry. Two almost geezers can't beat Jet Li. What an insult.

Yah, the ending was unbelievable. Ain't no way two old farts like Mel Gibson and Danny Glvoer are gonna kick Jet Li's ass.

Wake up! of course the ending sucked! Did you honestly think the hollywood movie mogols are going to let a Asian or a minority kick the "White" guys and win too?

Rogmok might be a bit younger than the rest of us. Just wanted to point that out.

Haha. Man, I hope I'm not getting a ballbuster rep. I just realized last week that a good chunk of the posters aren't old enough to have gone through a lot of the crappy 80s movies.
Ah yes. Showdown in Little Tokyo, American Ninja, pretty much any Van Damme or Steven Seagal movie, man... there's a good question. Who were all the quote-unquote American Ninjas of the 80s and 90s? Heck, 70s for that matter. Any movie with a training montage!
I never saw Gymkata. I just know if from watching too much Mystery Science Theater. Gymkata!

Well, I'm 25. As for Hello Hapa, let's just say that she's "over the hill" and leave it at that.

Yup, agreed MK.
I liked Replacement Killers better. Chow represented John Woo style for the U.S. audience. And that Mira Sorvino...daaaaaang she looked good.

speaking of white women who are into things chinese. i just found out something last night that was kind of a weird coincidence. one of my ex-gfs grew up in an area that doesn't have a big asian population, and she has two best friends. it turns out that one best friend's first boyfriend was actually chinese, and the other best friend is marrying a chinese guy.
