Shyamalan Takes Lady to WB
Source: The Hollywood Reporter March 24, 2005
M. Night Shyamalan will next write and direct the fantasy thriller Lady in the Water for Warner Bros. Pictures.
The movie centers on the superintendent of an apartment building who finds a rare type of sea nymph swimming in the apartment pool.
Production will begin in August on location in Philadelphia, for a release in July 2006.
Shyamalan's last four films - The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village - were distributed by Disney. The studio and Shyamalan discussed "Lady," but the two decided mutually to part ways on the project.

I really like his movies. I guess people don't like suspenseful movies that touch weird subjects now days. I haven't watched The Village, but I've watched everything else and I give them a thumbs up.

Nah! Betcha it's gonna be long, growing, seemingly-Asian-straight-jet-black hair coming out from corners of rooms and shit, entwining itself around people's necks!

So it's about a rare type of sea nymph, as opposed to the common type of sea nymph. That's the twist.

The rare sea nymph will be played by Bruce Willis, cos "Dude, looks like a lady!" The twist I foresee is that the nymph is a transexual; think 'The Crying Game.'

Haha, probably something even more dramatic. Something like she's the next human evolution or something. Or the guy who's looking at the nymph is really imaging her or some shit like that.

well. i think his movies are a bit
high brow suspense. but not too highbrow
to alienate the general public.
i haven't watched the village yet.
but i know the ending so that sucks.
well, i heard the village sucked. so whatever.

I agree with C-Boy.
Other than the Sixth Sense which deserves some merit, many of his movies are just ripoffs from that show "The Outer Limits." At least with "The Outer Limits," I don't have to put down 9.50 for a movie that can be explained in a 1 hour TV show.

I mean, if you're going to discuss movies in general, M. Night's movies are pretty well done compared to all the crap that's been coming out of Hollywood. I think he's a pretty good cinematographer and that if his movies are crap then the rest of whatever's coming out is probably worse than what he can do.

"Less crappy" doesn't really mean "good" though.

Of course, we can bring back the days of the Silver Screen, when everything was infinitely better than it is now.

Except instead of seeing Jet Li and Jackie Chan and Lucy Liu and Kelly Hu (and the countless other Asians I'm a bit tired to bring up), we'd be seeing non-Asians in "Dragon Lady" or "Fu Manchu" roles again.
