China View by way of Dark Horizons reports Ang Lee is making a prequel to the box office hit "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

The prequel will followthe young Li Mubai and Yu Xiulian, played by Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh in 'Crouching'.

Filming is due to begin this summer in Yunnan Province of southwestern China.

Hmm, will be interesting to see who will be cast as the young li Mubai and Yu Xiulian.

blah. can't Ang Lee come up with something better? what a waste of his directing talents.

Sounds like an interesting idea.

I think they killed off Li Mubai too quick.

I wonder if it will closely match the plot of the earlier books in the series or if he's going to get a little loosey-goosy with the story. Not that I could tell the difference too much. I think Colin Chou would be a good choice [for Li Mubai]. I think he's about the same height and he's even known fairly well known to an American audience.

Since the romance is eventually doomed, isn't making this kinda moot? Prequels tend not to do very well (over here anyway)...only Star Wars can get away with doing that and the first two of those are arguable with many heads about the terms of their quality.

Would've been better making something totally new from scratch, artistically speaking. I'll still watch it just to watch it, though.

I disagree with you on that - you really need to have read or now about the prequel. Since the story has turned into a comic, you should be able to obtain them really easily. So far the comic has put everything into perspective of why there was a tension between Jade Fox and Li Mu Bai. I'm not going to say anymore since it will spoil the suprises but I can guarantee it will benefit for you to understand the full story.

Here's a link of the comic - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (http://www.hkcomics.us/)

I'm really looking forward this despite already knowing what to expect but some of the fights in the prequel are quite intense which even new martial arts were formed because of some of the battles.

I don't know if it's a waste of time. I mean, isn't the first film based on the last book of a series? If that's the case, then there's a lot of story to tell.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is the 4th series of the book, originally written by Wang Du Lu. There are five books to this sequence:

1 - Crane Frightens KunLun
2 - Precious Sword, Golden Hairpin
3 - Sword Force, Pearl Shine
4 - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
5 - Iron Knight, Silver Vase

So does anyone think it's a waste of time to create the film when we only know 1 out of the 5?

So did I. Could've been less focused on the existentialism and more on the pure Hulk-smash action like they marketed it for, but I didn't think it deserved the bashing it received. Still good for a pizza & beer night.

Why doesn't he just do Iron Knight, Silver Vase and then backtrack from square one a la George Lucas? That'd make more sense, IMO. I had no idea this was a series! They should at least get Peter Chung or someone quality to animate the first three!

Hmm.....I dunno about the film version of the Hulk - the style of it was not the same to how the comic reads out to be. One thing for sure about the film is that it is a lot darker to how the comic portrays him.

I believe that by choosing the 4th part of the series was because the main character Li Mu Bai, was at his pinnacle level of martial arts whilst, on the 5th part, I think he was dead by the end of the 4th (evidence from the film) but I dunno if CTHD took anything from the 5th part aswell...
