More than two-thirds of kindergartners, first-graders and second-graders met county targets for reading last year, and school officials said Monday that they are closing the achievement gap in between African-American and Hispanic students and their white and Asian-American peers.

Montgomery County has a partial Chinese immersion program at Potomac Elementary school.

I know this Chinese American woman who lives in another part of the county and lobbied to get her daughter into the program, despite opposition from enrollees' parents who lived near the school. (The woman got help from her Congresswoman.)
