i'm a little put off by the original post...i mean, it sorta sounds like "Asian" = Korean, Chinese, and Japanese only. doesn't it?

i don't watch enough of non-Chinese Asian movies so i don't really have any favourite non-Chinese Asian movie stars. but my favourite movie stars and directors regardless of race are all Chinese.

actor: Tony Leung (Leung Chiu Wai), Anthony Wong (Wong Chau Sang)
actress: Maggie Cheung (Cheung Man Yuk), Josephine Siao (Siao Fong Fong) ((who has unfortunately retired i think...))
directors: Wong Kar Wai, Fruit Chan, Ann Hui

and beside her good acting, Maggie Cheung is just a timeless beauty.

Also, Takeshi Kaneshiro - Mandarin-speaking with Japanese cheekbones; it doesn't get much better than that.

Favorite Asian director is chanwook park, I loved JSA and Oldboy. JSA especially because it's one of those rare perfect blend of humour and drama that eludes movies.

For Asian actors in general, I guess I like Chow Yun Fat since he's easily one of the coolest actors ever-Asian or not.

one of my favorite asian movie stars is 山口百惠, one of the biggest film star in Japan in the 70s and early 80s. She retired after married to another film star in Japan, and became a housewife.

some people also claims that she is the direct descendents of the Yang Guifei [comcubine Yang in the Tang dynasty, a famous femme fatale :biggrin:

her most famous role she played a Geisha, I think, while her eventual husband also played the leading role.
