I was just handed a '96 Celica GT that's been sitting unused for about a year. Today I jumped it and drove it for about an hour. The charge seemed okay, but I'm going to replace the battery next weekend. It still has the original battery.

Okay, so the Celica has been mainly sitting in a garage for about 7 years, what else do I need to do?

change oil right now, check the timing belt if its dry or racked...replace if needed. check brakes see if theres any left. also wax it im sure the wax has worn off. Change the spark plugs and change coolant.

tell me u didn't use 1 yr old gas to take your first drive.

if you did.

change your fuel filter and run a fuel injector flush.

if there's any gas still left, empty the tank.

gas refreshener will not work.

you should also check all fluids, power steering, brake, clutch?, tranny. you might want to flush your coolant due to the possibility of deposits.

check your CV boot axles for signs of cracks.

i would check all of your air and fuel hoses fors signs of hardening and/or cracks.

good additions another good idea is to make sure ur ac system is fully charged and see if there is any refrigerent left b4 turning it on full blast or on at all because the AC compressor will blow up.

another nice one is check to see if all the electronics is functioning and if sumthings dead check the fuses. replace as needed.

also for that old a car and considering snow and such check the exhaust system for rust and holes.
