do you think you could have benefited from a course in asian american studies or asian american history/politics, etc. in high school? do you think you would have been capable of understanding the issues at that age? do you remember your apia identity back then, and how, if there were such a course, it would have influenced your first exposure to apa studies?

AA History and Politics high school classes would be an amazing advancement. AA history would have been easy to absorb but the AA politics not so much but it would have definately influenced me to major or minor in it in college.

it will be a long way and highly unlikely that my high school would ever had an asian american history course.... the thought is quite wishful thinking.

It would have been nice, but not sure if the quality of an ASA would have been enough to help. Also, since the area at which my HS is is primarily white and conservative, any ASA (or minority-oriented studies) would have been considered to be "overly politically correct" - the complaining about "PCism" was bad enough with a half-quarter of multicultural lit.

we had an Asian American Studies class in high school. I think everybody in the class could understand and relate to the issues we talked about (the majority of the class were asians or other minorities). However, the ideas of a dominate and subordinate forms of thought were never discussed which I think is central to sociology and asian american studies.
