Sounds great on paper. They don't say much about the handling though. Limited edition like the M5 with a nearly identical price tag.
Pros: Straight line rocket, probably an incredible interior like other Audis
Cons: Crappy automatic transmission, 2 ton+ curb weight

i've heard good things about handling...
after all, Audi did create Quattro and absolutely destroyed Rally Racing in the 80s..... with a woman driver i might add. There will never be a woman driver like her again. karizma... you still have hope <_< *doubtful*

actually Audi has been doing RS/ S/ sports models in europe since the mid 80's i think thats orginal enuff. or u'd like to race an older Audi Quattro done by audi's performance div (legendary quick car).
RS4 wagonand RS6 are pretty fast and luxurious vehechiles u cant really bitch bout 200 units being imported of the RS6.

it is an A6, bassically the body is similar to the 8 cylinder a6 and the chassis is the same. interior is also taken from the a6 v8 but glamorized. its not a new model but a modified mutated A6 V8 even the motor is about the same jsut w/ two bit turbos slapped on w/ their back accesories like intercooler and larger injectors and changes in compression and cam timing. Only different externally is the wheels and front and rear bumpers, its all bout being stealthy and lookin like a stock A6.
A4's styling is derivative of the a6's
ah correct post.

Mercedes offers 349 horsepower in its E55 AMG? BMW will give you 394 with the M5? Then Audi will produce 450. And so we get the RS6, a two-ton beast powered by a schmoozed-over version of the 4.2-litre 5-valve V8 used in the S8, plus two turbochargers with twin air-to-air intercoolers, modified cylinder heads for better cooling, sodium-filled exhaust valves and freer-flowing intake and exhaust. Once out of the factory, the power passes through a 5-speed automatic transmission as featured on the A8 W12 (also on the site), which incorporates shift paddles behind the steering wheel, the closest thing that will ever be offered to a fully manual transmission. There is quattro awd (the car is built by Quattro GmbH for Pete's sake!) which routes the horses down to the 255/35ZR18 tires. Audi's glorious overkill (at least until the RS6 is outdone by the next contestant) will leave your mouth watering: 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and 0-125 (I'm sure this little tidbit of information will come in very handy in your daily commute) in 17.8. So, yes, it's faster than the M5!
When you need to slow down, there are 8-piston Brembo calipers biting down on 14.4-inch pies in the front, with single-piston 13.2 inchers in the back. The RS6's suspesnion also impresses with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) which is an all-mechanical spin on Mercedes' electronically controlled ABC active suspension. Hydraulic lines connect diagonally opposed shocks through a central reservoir, so that fluid can move around the car to selectively change the damping characteristics of the various corners. For instance, in an agressive cornering manoeuvre, as hydraulic pressure in the shocks on the inside of the corner is reduced, hydraulic fluid and pressure move the the diagonal outside shocks, stiffening them to reduce roll. Keeping 4000+lb of 450hp machine on the road is also taken care of by ESP, EBD, EDL and a bunch of other acronyms, as on the RS4. One of the main differences between this "R" and the RS2 and 4 is the apperarance of a sedan in the lineup, besides the familiar Avant layout. In North America it will be the only variant offered. Inside there is carbon fibre trim, special sports seats, electrically operated and trimmed with leather and Alcantara, air conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, CD player and optional satellite navigation, in-car television, and built-in cellular phone systems. Outside, save for new intakes for the intercoolers and the large twin exhaust tips, the RS6 looks very much like an A6. There will be 860 RS6s available when the model is introduced in North America, at a base price of under $85,000.
wagon power baby!

after sitting and driving a co-worker's RS6, chester the molester you were right in our debate awhile back between the E55 amg and the audi RS6. i would take the RS6 over the E55 amg.

basically everything. the RS6 was just a better designed car overall.
but, essentially the RS6 is refined power. the E55 was just raw power.

That seems to be the general party-line with regard to the RS6 vs. the E55...or the RS6 vs. the CTS-V.
Why don't you just go into plastic surgery and pick up an M5?

the opportunity has passed me a long time ago.
the senior doctors here keep talking about the M5. i bet there's gonna be a long waiting list just like for the SL65 amg. the local bmw and benz dealer must make a killing off them.

Didn't know there were so many would-be pimps with MDs. The SL65 is obviously a beautiful car, but I think it pushes the line a bit into gaudy territory -- even more so than the E55, which is already a wee bit splashier than I'd like.
Personally, I like the RS6 not just for the power numbers and AWD driving performance, but because it's the stealthiest of the cars in its class. I don't see the appeal of looking like you're trying to be a rap star or sports buffoon.
The M5 is stealth in the sense that BMWs don't have that jewel-like appeal that Mercs do, but I don't like BMWs and the disco interior of a friend's father's M5 made me want to puke on it. And -- believe me -- vomit stains would have been a cosmetic improvement.
Moving down in size, one thing that I'm eagerly waiting to see is what Audi'll do in terms of an RS4. I just looked under the hood of one of the new B7 S4 Avants and having seen the 4.2L V8 crammed into that thing, I don't know what in the world they could do to significantly upgrade the engine to justify an RS model.
So...if I remember correctly, you were pretty seriously looking at cars before. How far away are you from pulling the trigger on something?

well the lexus i bought recently is only a year old. i probably won't be buying that new car till i finish my surgical oncology fellowship, join a group, buy a house and knock off some of my student loans. so it'll probably when i'm at least 40.
^ well if it's any consolation i think your car's pretty sweet.

Just wondering: do they also have an unabashed affinity for Tommy Bahama clothing and those Italian silk sweaters that look like Jackson Pollock puked on them?

...when you'll end up with an E430 or possibly an E500, stewing with resentment until the age of 60, when you'll go out and buy a 911 Turbo after a minor spat with the wife.

it's funny you bought it up. the guys on the waiting list for these cars are like mid 50's early 60's. the guy who took me for a spin in his RS6 is a few years older than me that recently finished his fellowship and decided to dump everything into the car. he was like fuck it.

Doctors and cars...
My neighbor, a doctor, did that- well not a turbo, but got himself a 911 one day because he felt like it. His wife was not pleased. As in pissed off, what the hell is this not pleased.
But if you think about it, the only thing you can really enjoy day in and day out is a car. Might as well make it a nice one.
To make the RS6 even stealthier- swap the RS6 badges for "3.0L" badging, make it look like a typical A6.
That M5 is going to be killer- it starts out with 400hp, but with a flick of the button, the ECU gives you full access to all 500hp. You can change suspension and gearing settings, it is the absolute business. And it sounds fantastic.

I don't care for Audis, but damm, a Porsche 911 Turbo would be hella sweet!
Again, 911 needs a clutch! Damn Tiptronics!
Drives me nuts knowing the 911 demographic can't even drive a sports car properly.
It is a sports car! Not a shiny phallic symbol!

Audi is closing production on the current version of the RS6. It'll be interesting to see what they end up putting into the next one...
By the time I might be able to afford such things, I suspect I'll move either larger or smaller -- to either an S8 or S4.

Huh? Is the new 911 not available with a regular 6 speed?? That doesn't sound right. I think Tiptronic is still just an option, right? Even Mercedes is bringing their manual transmissions back after a several year hiatus.

911 is offered with the optional manual. However, it is not right when only 20-30% of all buyers get the manual. It's a sports car!
Now the manual is the "option??" Ugh.=P
Each of my cars has been manual from my lowly 1977 Mercedes 240D (yes, as in diesel), to my 1988 Mercedes 260E, to my 1998 Honda Prelude, and my present Acura. You can bet if I ever work my way up to the ranks of a Porsche, I'm going to demand a stick shift. It's a damn shame none of the high performance German sedans are available in stick.

no love for the F1 paddles AND stick on the bmw M5 SMG 7speed? It's not conventional, but it's still technically stick (you didn't say nuffin about no clutch).

Well you can always get yourself a E39 BMW M5- it's no V10, but then again, I wouldn't be complaining if I had a 400hp V8 M5.
If F1 drivers use the paddle shifters, then it's OK in my book.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the SMG trannys on the Bimmers. I'm actually cool with that. So I guess it's just the Benzes & Audis that're lacking true manuals.
