So when does season 3 start?

I'll start a league in Feb when Yahoo opens up. I think I'll make it a weekly changes league H2H 6X6.

I like the system we had last year. I don't think H2H is good for baseball. (That's the one where you play against one team, in a week long game, right)
I think it's better to accumulate stats over the season. I mean, it's kind of unfair if your opponent gets 2 starts out of his aces, while you only get one that week...

I'm game for whatever, although I have to admit, I probably age about five years during head to head play.

Just making a new thread, and unsticking the thread about last season.
How about if we make some stakes for playing this year.
So if we have 6x6
last place sends $100 to first place
11th sends $80 to 2nd
10th sends $60 to 3rd
9th sends $40 to 4th
8th sends $20 to 5th
7th sends $5 to 6th
Play with the numbers all you want. But I think it will keep people into the game, and when the difference between 12th and 11th is Andrew Jackson, I'll try to stay out of the cellar.
Of course we don't have to do the money thing, but I was just wondering whatchall thought about that.

League's up.

6X6 Roto league. Max 20 teams.
Runs, RBI, HRs, Bat Avg, Stolen Bases, and OPS.

The draft is tentatively scheduled for Mon Mar 14 5:00pm PST. That time can change if people cannot make it or if a plurality would like a different time.

Wait a second, IP? You're supposed to limit IP, not give extra points for abusing it. (afterall, 100 strikeouts is a lot more impressive if you do it in 100 IP than it is if you do it in 300)
You're actually encouraging people to add and drop pitchers every day so that they can get potentially 20 starters playing in one week.
Also, all relief pitchers except closers are now worthless.

Hmm...good point. You're right. I was debating between IP and appearances.
But with IP limited to 1250...what do you think, Appearances? BB/9?

Hmm BB/9 doesnt encourage people to get good relievers.
Appearances with an innings limit makes relief pitchers (especially ones that won't fuck up your stats) very very valuable.
i like that

I don't really trust people will hold up their ends of the bargain unless people pay into the pool in advance. Even then, people probably won't trust the holder of the money.
The concept of prizes to keep it interesting is a good one though. Logistics is the impediment.

After I complete the Tejada trade I'll have the entire Oriole infield.
I don't really like my chances to win this year, but it really should be more fun.

Due to the unwillingness of Annie to part with Moises Alou, he's not getting my SS as a result of the Tejada - Crisp for Podsednik-Matsui trade. (I just can't seem to hold onto Matsui after drafting him every single year!).
This leaves me with a hole in CF or LF.
I have a surpluss at SS and 3B in Orlando Cabrera and Mike Lowell that I will trade to you for a good LF or CF.
Annie meanwhile has 2 LFs and can only use one, (unless he DHs Alou or Matsui) and no SS.

I think I set the roster limit too low at 21. Usually its like 24 or 25. Any desire to have me change it?
I have 3 CFs, Patterson, Kotsay, and Griffey. Are you interested in any of them? I don't have a roster hole except maybe a SP, but I could use some multi-position players.

Well, I think it's fine as it is, it makes it so we can't horde players we aren't using, and that way everyone has a better chance. If you want to increase the roster size, then we need to have four more draft rounds to make it fair...
I'd be interested in any of the CFs you have, but the problem is, I only have 4 SPs and not very good ones at that.
I'd be willing to give you Mike Lowell or Orlando Cabrera or a closer not named Keith Foulke. And you probably don't need either of them.

I won't increase the roster size.

Nobody has an LF better than Coco Crisp that they want to trade me? Practically all my pitching is on the block, and I'd even trade ichiro if the right trade came along.

HAHA nevermind. Ichiro is officially off the block.
Though I still do need a Left Fielder.
One of the trades I suggested was Helton(1B) and Lowell(3B) for Huff (3B/LF) and Thome (1B)...
Lucky for that guy that he didn't do it, cuz Lowell is sucking...

I went into the season thinking that my biggest problem was gonna be starting pitching. I somehow managed to pick up Derek Lowe and Barry Zito on waivers and it appears now that SPs are actually my strength.
My weakness is my offense, which dominated in April and May.

Damn you Dada!
You snagged Timlin moments before I read the news about Foulke! I had no choice other than to go after Embree... Ouch. Well, Julio for Embree isn't so bad... for now anyway.
I started this season with 5 closers! 5!
Foulke, Ryan, Affeldt, Graves, and Batista.
Graves got released for sucking and for giving someone the finger. Affeldt went on the DL, came back briefly, then went back on the DL. And now Foulke might go to the DL too.
I had Brazoban for the week when he wasn't closer, then Gagne got injured again AFTER I dropped him.
WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH! I'm in a pissy mood because I used to be leading by 20 points and dominating the offensive categories.
Now the O's are slumping and my team is in fourth.
Haaa...I haven't done much right this season, so Timlin probably won't help me much either, but I like having a Red Sox closer on my roster even if it is temporary.
BeTheReds

Well, Embree got the save yesterday...
If you like Red Sox closers, I'll trade you Foulke in a package for uh..
Wait, probbly everything of yours I want is Redsox...
None of my Red Sox hitters are available for trade, and I don't think anyone would want any of the pitchers other than Clement.
I am off to Vegas just to watch the All Star game....go SOX!!! Go American League (except Yankees who still suck)!!!

Well, with the season half over, it's time to review or best and worst drafts, pickups, drops, and lucky/unlucky players.
Best draft pick: This is difficult, but I have to give it to my 17th round draft pick, Brian Roberts. Chris Carpenter in the 12th was also in there for consideration.
Worst draft pick: Probably Mike Lowell in the 15th. I was tempted to give it to Danny Graves who I picked in the 11th (before Carpenter!) but despite being a complete bust as a closer, he did give me 10 saves and a few wins to boot. He was killing my ERA and WHIP though before the Reds let him go. Mike Lowell has done absolutely nothing this season, and you have to wonder what happened to him.
Best Trade: Jon Leiber and Orlando Cabrera for Corey Patterson and Woody Williams. While all of these players can currently be found on waivers, Woody was part of my 4 man only rotation before I ran into Zito and Lowe. After my other trade I was without a CF and Corey was my CF up until last week and got me a bunch of steals. I dropped his ass because he wasn't hitting, and he was sent to the minors shortly after that.
Worst Trade: Hideki Matsui and Scott Podsednik for Coco Crisp and Miguel Tejada. Even though this is a horrible trade for me from the fantasy aspect of the game, I'd still do it again because I love Miguel. I never learn my lesson, and despite drafting Matsui three years in a row, I've traded him for the likes of Vernon Wells or as part of pacages for other players. Right now, Matsui and Tejada are about on equal standing from a fantasy standpoint. Scott Podsednik has lots of steals, and Coco Crisp is now part of AB's team. This is the case of being blinded by Oriole orange glasses, but I'm not gonna complain about it because I've done worse. (i.e. 2003 Ichiro for Derek Lowe)
Best Pickup: 2/5 of my starting pitching staff. I pulled off of waivers a Cy Young winner and a World Champion in Barry Zito and Derek Lowe. People thought they were washed up after their slow starts in April, and now they're doing fine. I'm actually kicking ass in pitching despite paying no attention to it in the draft.
Worst Drop: I picked up Yhency Brazoban after Eric Gagne came back, thinking he could help my ERA. He got lit up 2 or 3 times in a row and I dropped him. Then Eric Gagne got hurt again. Yhency returned to the closer role and has been accumulating saves at an alarming pace.
Unlucky Position/players: I've been at a loss as to how to put Jay Gibbons into my lineup. I have a right fielder in Ichiro, and I have a 1B in Helton that I'm not willing to sit for Jay Gibbons. So I sat him on the bench during his May hot streak, while using Shea Hillenbrand in the Util spot in May (after Shea had hit near .400 in April). Shea Hillenbrand for me, hit .250 with 13 RBI. I then said I'll just trust my instincts and use Jay Gibbons as my DH. Then Frank Thomas came back from injury. I wanted to start Frank Thomas, but I knew that if I started him, Jay Gibbons would suddenly become the man, and Frank Thomas would suck. So since June I've been switching between Thomas and Gibbons, and never seeming to get either on the right day. When Gibbons is on the bench, he'll have a great day, and when Thomas is on the bench, Gibbons will go 0-4. Gibbons on the year is hitting .259 with 13HR and 41RBIs. For me he's hit .238 with 6HR and 22RBIs.
Thomas in real life is hitting .244 with 11HR and 23RBI (despite being injured for the first two months) For me he hits .225 with 4HR and 12RBI.
So combined, Gibbons, Hillenbrand, and Thomas have hit about .240 with 13HR and 48RBIs, which is only 7 RBI more and about 20 points less than if I had just started Gibbons alone.
I'm in second place and I predict a top 3 finish for my team.
