It was my brother's birthday (Happy Birthday bro!) and instead of skimping out on him this year I decided to do something to make up for it. No, I don't own and iPod and no, I don't think I'd ever want to buy one, but my brother seems to like his hip hop so I figure it'll do him a lot more good than it'll do me. He's commuting to school as well, so I figure he could do with having his complete mp3 collection on the go.
Oh yeah, I work full time too, this was off of my first full paycheck. Now, I have to see something about the groceries I've been meaning to buy.

Cool. I'm sure he's going to dig it in a big way. I just picked up a Creative Labs Zen Micro today. Fucking around with it now. If I like it, I'll pick up one for my little brother, whose birthday was this week.
Apparently it's a very Chinese thing to do.
Nice gift. We got an iPod for my little brother for his birthday last September. Found out two weeks ago that he broke the lcd about a week after he got it. So now he's got a 15GB iPod shuffle.

Oooo. I saw that advertised recently. I like it as a competitor and a cheaper price.

Or Books on Tape. Noticed that Iris Chang's book is available through iTunes.

Groceries? Taco Bell bean and cheese burritos are inexpensive and will keep for a week.

Is this the same thing as the iPod mini? Or is there only 1 kind of iPod?

No, the mini is the one with the metal sheath that reminds me of a pastel dildo that plays music.

I'm a fan of the Zen, I was actually thinking about getting this one and yeah yomama, we can all be brothers and sisters. ; )

if you're going to get any kind of mp3 player, the ipod is the way to go.

But if you want to go "Mini"-sized, the only way to go is Zen Micro, which has an extra 1GB of memory, interchangeable batteries, built-in FM tuner and voice recorder, backlit controls, better audio performance, and is cheaper.

Between the iPod mini and the Zen micro, I see the Zen micro easily beating out the iPod mini. I got the iPod with my educational discount so I got it probably for 20 bucks more than what i would have to pay for the iPod mini retail. So, I guess the choice was easy. : \

Then I don't see any reason to switch -- unless maybe if you have a really strong need for an FM tuner and/or voice recorder.
Creative Labs has been around for a long time. They started making MP3 long before Apple did, as did many others. The build quality on the Zen Micro feels just as solid and substantial as the iPod, as does the finish.

On the Apple site it's 299, but with an educational discount (if you know anyone in college and their college has an educational agreement with Apple) you get like 10% off. i got mine for like, 270 , i don't know what it is with tax though.
by the way, don't buy one for your friend if it means staying friends. in my opinion, i don't think that's a very good relationship, but what do i know?

Need some help here. myself got an iPod shuffle, won it at a raffle at work actually, its real cool, so small and holds so much, but here's the problem, myself already has a Creative Labs Nomad and also a Muvo and the software that interfaces with these players lets you browse the hard drive, hell windows media player can xfer stuff to them, so myself has all my mp3's organized by filename. But myself can't see where the iTunes software allows that, it uses the ID3 tags and about half of my mp3's don't have the ID3 tags that list the artist & title, some have them some are blank some just say "title" or "rock" so the library is all messed up. myself has tried to find other apps at download.com and other sites but so far they all use ID3 tag. does anyone know of a specific app that can manage the iPod shuffle and browse by filename? or a utility that will make it easy to add the ID3 tags? I really don't want to type in the artist and title for about a thousand files

In iTunes, you can clean up your tags by highlighting your tracks and pressing APPLE-I or CNTRL-I which should bring up the info for the track.

man...i'm so gonna buy an ipod tomorrow.
Well, I finally picked me up an mp3 player. Nothing fancy or glamorous like the iPod or iPod shuffle though.=) I was browsing woot.com one day and they had refurbished Rio Cali Sports (128MB) for $30. With FM tuner, stopwatch, equalizer and, most importantly, upgradable memory up to 1GB via SD card slot, they were too cheap to pass up so I had to get one for my girlfriend and one for myself. Throw in a 512MB SD card for $25 after rebate and the total price for each came out to be less than $60 for a fully functional mp3 player with 640MB of memory.

If it works, it works. I found a floor model of the 2G ipod for 100 bucks. It was a lucky find, congrats on the purchase though. DId you ever find a roommate?
Wow, $100?? Nice find!
And yes, I did find a roommate. Thanks for asking. She has way too much stuff and brought a dog which fucked up the carpet. Good thing she only has a six month lease. I'm either going to raise the rent on her very high, or give her the boot.
