Got it running on the third try. I realized on the first two cranks that none of the cylinders were getting the spark at the right time. I reversed the coils from the instructions in the manual and it fired up immediately and idled better than my VPC+550cc chip+stock ECU did. I suspect the injector wires are wired incorrectly or the coil packs are marked incorrectly but that no longer matters.

I wonder how the many EMS units stack up against each other in terms of price/performance and features that are actually needed. I chose the TEC-2 because I know a very good tuner and not because I studied the features (I only knew that it had what I needed and more) and cost effectiveness.

this is for the japanese units.
stand alone
Power FC is good and commonly used by the sr20det and 13b-REW people because there is one good tuner in usa who can work w/ them XS-engineering. but its very complicated and for like home brew tuning and small tuner shops its not the best solution. also it is very expensive being 1050$ for the power FC, 450 for a commander, and 300 a extra module new.
HKS Fcon V no one i know works w/ that other then Top Fuel japan and soon topfuel usa.
Piggy bak Greddy E-manage new choice for a lot of tunners from japan carune motorsports is having luck w./ these in sr20det cars.

Freedom ECU
electronic programmable 4 memory setting.
manual select. =)
so if you fuck up, just toggle it back to the stock setting and you can drive home.
plus, self tuning.

I feel the market is suddenly turning to EMS systems and the like. There have been quite a few new or newly imported systems lately.

I did a full warm up from a cold start before the Giants game. The car starts better than it ever did when warm. It starts normally on a cold start which is very good. I think the direct fire ignition may have something to do with this. I got shocked by the system a few times. It kinda felt good in a funny way. 30,000-50,000 volts is bitchin when you don't expect it. If not for some loss through the system, I think I would be in for a real jolt.
I adjusted IOT and TOG to give the engine more gas both at idle and throughout the rpm range. EGT's seem much more "normal" at this point. I will probably do some more research and tinkering before I take it out on the freeway for a slow test drive.

Bloody hell. Now Electromotive makes a bolt-on kit for my car after I paid for custom fabrication. Twice. It's weird how they would suddenly make a kit for a car that has not been imported to the USA for over 7 years! I think this goes along the lines of how EMS systems are getting more prevalent.
