did you have in mind what kind of place you wanted to live in (location) or did you choose your school on the sole basis of reputation? did you apply for scholarships? or not?

chose to stay in NY (I'm a lifer baby!) the only way I was going out of state was if I got admitted by one of the 3 top tier schools I selected.

So basically I selected 3 possibly attainable top tier schools, then I selected 4 schools in NY and one more being in Pennsylvania. 2 out of the 4 NY schools were safety schools.

So 8 schools.

Why I selected Columbia in the end? Because I got wait listed and dismissed from the 3 top tier schools I selected. The final decision was between Columbia, Cornell and Univerisity of Pennsylvania.

Columbia gave me more scholarships than Cornell or U Penn. Cornell is in upstate NY which is pretty close to no man's land. U. Penn, I didn't like the campus that much when I visited. It didn't feel right to me. Plus I was never been too keen on Philly before when I visited, growing up.

Looking back now, I think it all boiled down to the fact that my ass was too lazy to move more than 50-60 miles :ph34r:

I basically had 3 schools to choose from in the world for my major as an undergrad program... the grad program exists in 6 or 7 schools...again, in the world...(haha.. uniqueness)

I choose RIT, cause, it's the only school in NY that has medical illustration. All other schools I applied to except Arcardia Univ.(former. Beaver College) I applied because they accepted my portfolio soo I wwas a shoo-in grade wise. Arcardia was my second choice and also accepted my portfolio in person...RIT's the only school I had to send stuff in..which was, scary being that it was my first choice. I'm glad I'm here cause...RIT had awesome program..no matter how much them Johns Hopkins kiddies think...HA..we have an RIT Alumne working at the pathlogy dept at JHU...

also RIT gave me lots o money(there ARE loans though..arg)

Undergraduate :
criteria ...
cost (both school and things like rent, etc.)
friends
school ranking for chosen major
location
public school only
asian population
far away from "relatives"

3 schools applied to, more than enough
too lazy to give tips
don't want to write essay

Graduate :
only applied to 1 school, enough
criteria ...
in major metro where i could potentially afford to live
respectable school
flexible for working people
class selection
local economy not totally stinking it up
away for the south and mountain/desert states
far away from "relatives"

i chose my school cuz i thought from there i'd have a better chance of transferring into the school I really wanted to go to. ended up not being able to transfer (rejected yet again). should have gone to NYU who were gonna give me almost a free ride.

i applied to none, my average high school gpa, average SAT scores ass did not meet any qualifications, except that of state colleges which my parents refuse to send me to.
so, based upon my grades and financial situation, it was decided for me that i would attend a community college, and try to bridge over to a UC, meanwhile working numerous jobs (because i can't get any financial aid :pissed: ).
here i am now, hurrah.

oh yes, i also realized there were no scholarships that pertained to me after I searched.
