White people like eating Chinese take-out and putting chopsticks in their hair, but it's not like they accept our culture.

But don't Asians like...complain about white people who do that? What is your stance on Chinese people buying Hello Kitty stuff and turning into Anime freaks while basically not either accepting or respecting Japanese culture? I'm not really implying that Japanese culture is constantly being exotified by Chinese or whatever, but I'm curious about the standards and analogy between White people cheapening Asian culture and Chinese (or other Asian) people cheapening Japanese culture.

^But she's not making a claim that Chinese have a deep and meaningful attachment to Japanese culture in order to holiday in Japan. CM questioned how any ethnic and/or cultural Chinese with strong feelings about the Japanese government's war atrocities against Chinese could vacation in Japan. ABC didn't make a statement on the right or wrong of it - she explained (like many others) that it's two separate issues.

As to your question, hube, it is different but I think it should go in another thread. Matter of fact, I think I might ship part of this back into the Japan/China thread because it's not really about traveling. Closing until I operate on this.

edit: split and moved. any one who has a better idea for a thread title just say so and i'll change it. yes, i'm aware it sucks.
