Hey guys:

who of us really likes violence?

if you DO like violence: what kind of violence do you like?

1) random senseless violence (e.g, Ninja Resurrection market scene)

2) evil focused violence (e.g., Shishio in Rurouni Kenshin)

3) righteous focused vengeance violence (Mikagami (?) fr Flame of Recca-- seeks revenge for ppl who killed his sister)

4) righteous but completely wild kill-until-you-can't-kill-no-more vengeance violence (Iron Man)

Do you like your violence w/ sex or do you like platonic violence?

And to make this nominally Asian:

What kind of violent things would you prefer?

1) violence w/ humiliation a la Chinese movies

2) a quiet no fuss no messin' around violence a la Western movies.

I dunno, I kind of like it all, but what I like most is revenge violence (gives that moral high ground facade) extreme humiliation of your enemy. Perhaps sexually hinted but platonic is just as good, as long as it's extreme and preceded by a few taunts, at least.

Like i remember this Chinese movie where this dude was fighting this other dude and made him drink his urine. THAT's the illlll violence.

Two types of violence appeal to me:

1) Violence via Road to Justice:

For example, in Chinese Connection when a Japanese guy tells Bruce Lee (Chen Zhen) to pretend to be a dog so that he would let him into the park (No dogs or Chinese allowed in park)...in 1900s in a Shanghai park...

and Bruce Lee doesn't even dignify that remark with a word, he just punches and beats the hell out of that guy.

A lot of the Wong Fei-Hung movie violence are good like that too...nothing like beating up gwailos when they're occupying YOUR country.

2) Violence via Psychotic Drive

Sometimes senseless violence "floats the boat." Maybe I'm just a sadistic person, but when Patrick Bateman just started randomly killing people in that movie American Psycho, I found it totally awesome...

No real drive...no real need for the violence...just surrendering to our baser human nature...just pure animal instincts...

I don't totally remember the book American Psycho (I read it when I was in high school) but didn't Ellis have a deeper message behind the violence? I thought it was something along the lines of Fight Club...

the movie's message, at least, has something to do w/ the emptiness of modernity. so it's like a modern nihilism book.

Yeah it was a commentary on the souless 80s where materialism dominated the globe and America was consumed with greed (partly because the Japanese GDP was higher).

It also commented on how people were so busy with their personal lives and gains that they didn't realize what was happening in the society around them.

But all that analytical stuff can be brushed aside from you see someone stabbing people for no reason.

I'm a lover not a fighter

Edit: I like righteous focused violence with T&A and sex and humiliation of your enemies. From your choices.

I like every violence, as long as it doesn't seriously hurt anybody for real. I prefer it to be kept on tv.

I like all the aforementioned incarnations of violence, but I really dig the "Cold-grinning-stare-into-your-eyes-and-slit-your-throat-and-watch-you-die" revenge kind of violence.

...cuz, man, that;s Evil!

American Pycho was a good movie, unlike many typical movies that have come and gone. I liked the movie because it was witty and sarcastic in it's social commentary of the decadence of the 80's.

i dont like violence it only should be the last resort and used to either defend your loved ones or ur own personal self. and it can be used to uphold and defend your honor as a man and for the greater good. you should tho when u have to commit a violent act be through makes sure ur opponent is defeated completely and humiliated or dead. If u need to fight might as well make it through and a complete victrory.

and yes i been watching to many samurai anime and manga.

hmmm, violence in movies is definitely a plus. only thing better is a good chase scene...

good chase scenes are cool, but i think personal one-on-one violent sword-fighting beats them all. Or maybe a swordfight escaflowne-the-movie-first-scene-style, kill the opponent before he even gets the chance to move.

hey good violent scenes are even better than good sex scenes. and if it's both. :D

the coolest mix that i can think of off the top of my head is in Basic Instinct's first scene, where the chick ties up the dude in a kinky sort of way and then STABS HIM TO DEATH WITH AN ICEPICK!

The other cool mix i can think of is when the dude in American Psycho is having his way w/ some girl, and next thing you know, he's chainsawing her to death. talk about overcompensating for a small penis.

ok now everyone thinks i'm a psychopath. i swear i'm NOT gonna be in the evening news!
