Awesome. Most of my favorite Cantonese pop songs were from the 80's even though I couldn't really understand most of what they were saying and probably still can't. The new shit they have these days just sucks ass.

yeah but most of the songs from the 80s are so cheesy. but i do like a lot of songs from Alan Tam, Anita Mui, and Leslie Cheung.

there are famous musicians nowadays that have good songs, but you're right, most of it is shit. i listen more to indie/DIY music from HK.

I would if I had any :frown: Then again if they're from HK or connected within the HK circle wouldn't they already have access to this type of music (if they really wanted to get it, much like how we access the oldies)?

actually, most people i believe find this site only through referrals, because it doesn't come up on google unless you type in certain specific key words. i only found it when, last weekend, i was desperately searching for hong kong 90's music to listen to and stayed up an entire night - frustrated with the internet. i finally came across the site with the chinese ringtones and thought, "whatever, if i can't listen to the songs, i'll settle on short clips of the tunes." suddenly, one click of the mouse brought me to hkvp. cheesy, i know.

but now i'm a marketing associate with hkvp and will be trying to coordinate several events to promote the station. i have absolutely 0 experience in marketing, so any and all suggestions would be appreciated. we're also looking for people who could read and write chinese (and who are enthuastic about what this station seeks to do) to help translate the latest entertainment news from chinese to english for the site each day or so. please let me know if you're interested.

remember, though, it's not entirely their fault. blame the songwriters.

That's what HK music is all about - UBER soppy love ballads. You either love it or hate it.

It's the way the Chinese music industry is run too, more than anything.

I'm not HK enough to listen to pop songs from back in the day, thought I listen to a few taipei stations at work:

one more reason i like LMF. in a documentary about them, the guy that writes all their lyrics was talking shit about how all the pop stars ever sing about is love. how much can you really sing about the subject?

aside from Faye and sometimes Sammi, i don't think i listen to any pop stars. i usually listen to the more indie stuff like Chet Lam, Ketchup, PixelToy, at17 (though they are becoming quite mainstream), Pancakes, etc. and of course LMF, but they have been broken up for a couple of years now.

though i do like some of the older songs by Roman, Anita, Alan Tam, Leslie, and Beyond. hell, Roman's 獅子山下 (Under The Lion Rock) has basically become HK's unofficial anthem.

Beyond, Eason Chan, Hacken Lee for me.

Don't really care about anyone else, although some of the other songs are kinda catchy.
