i just got a job today. I'll be working at Jerry's Artist Supply Store starting tomorrow... and yeah, the pay royally sucks.. starting out at 6.75/hour... Thats a big steep down from getting paid 12.65/hour like i use to... and i hope ppl dont look down upon me for applying and accepting a job like this... cuz at least i'll be working in an environment that ACTUALLY suits my interest... i mean, i think i would prefer getting paid less at something i enjoy.. rather than getting paid more at a job i royally hate.... like my last work place....
anyways, something is better than nothing, right?? And i can always find something else... later on down the road... but like anyways...i'm just feeling kinda excited despite the pay... cuz i feel... at least i'm moving towards a DIRECTION... that's more geared towards me...

It's good to work.
But don't let that stop you from keeping your eyes open for other opportunities.

Keep your eyez on the prize.
No one's gonna look down on you for making an honest living, besides it's just a stepping stone, like you said.

yeah, i know...
but this is what i'm feeling...
I feel its a DIRECTION for me...
I've been in a field where i've been working with people with disabilities for i feel like many years.... i knew i could easily get a job.. working as a residence counselor... working in a group home or something like that.... but its what i no longer wanted.... and i'm not like a business person... i've never held a job where i had to wear a business dress.. and i'm not about to start working in a place like that...
i'm still a student, an art student... i just need some money to pay for my bills, the gas for my car, food, etc... and i think this is the first time in my life.. i'll be working in an environment... thats about me... Me, i just feel like its a start... a start in moving in a direction of some sort...

Hey, there's nothing wrong with the job you have. I have a stubborn unemployed friend who keeps turning down jobs because they don't fit his freaking Harvard pedigree. Then he turns around and complains he's broke. Whatever with that. During the down economic times in the 70s my mom worked an extra waitress job while she was a teacher. Like buoywonder said, just keep looking while you're bringing in some bucks.

Congrats TB. "A job is a job" -- this has been my mantra (for the past couple of weeks anyway).

I'm in the same situation, Have been out of work for 4 months now, The economic market in u.k sucks right now so can't get a job.
Its easier to find a job when you're in a job, Stick with what you have till something better comes along.

Depends on what industry you're in though, I'm in I.T and the markets totally dead right now, So why are you leaving then?

To move on to greener pastures, of course. Or to find my real calling in life. (And to get a little bit of R&R in while I'm figuring it all out). I'm in law right now but I'm not sure if this profession is right for me. We'll see. Market's not sooo bad right now for lawyers, especially now that I have a bit of experience under my belt...I hope.
But yeah, I hear I.T. is definitely not the place to be and hasn't been for a while. Good luck on your job situation.=/

Oh hey all...
I forgot about this thread until i received a reply notification for this... And oh wellz... i'm poor as heck now.. but i feel i'm more relaxed now a dayz... i'm not constantly complaining and bitching about... oh, i have to go into work today... But this is not to say that i'm feeling complacent... i'm looking for more fulfilling things down the road...
me, i'm actually in the mist of talking with my art teacher at school... when it comes to actually developing a career for myself...
And wellz, i think i give a thumbs up to alex in taking the time to try to find his true calling... cuz i think it important to try to pursue those things that you actually enjoy...
Good luck to everybody when it comes to your endeavors..

Had an interview for a job today and confession time I cheated in the test they gave me! I was left in an empty office for half an hour and didn't know some of the answers so I sent a text message to some friends for the answers!
Arex Good luck man and I hope you find your calling in life.

Heh.. Good luck Arex, much fortune to ya! Anyway, It's a bitch for me to land a job right now. Applied for a number of jobs, They're either "not hiring until X-mas" or no response. Anyway, I hope to find something in art as well, but I am heavily considering joining the USAF. Something just keeps on beckoning me into the Blue Yonder.

Good luck, Arex. Hope you find your calling whether it be law or otherwise. What's making you think about switching away from law? If ya don't mind me asking. It's alot of time invested, must've given it alot of thought. You're bright guy, you'll do well in whatever you do.
My dad always said law is a great field to go into, because no one will mess with a lawyer, especially being a minority in this country.
