have you ever been the target of Asian fetish or exoticised by non-Asian women? or have you ever dated/been involved with non-Asian women that specifically like Asian men?
how was it like and how did you feel about that?
i have casually dated one non-Asian woman that had a thing for Asian men. i have to admit part of the reason i did that was because i thought she would be easy to get into bed. on a few occasions random non-Asian women have said "ni hao" to me before at a bar or some social settings. i usually ignored them or just smiled politely if i didn't find them attractive, but i talked to those who i thought looked good.

Yes.

I didn't know at first but later I saw the signs like her being a buddhist, her love for Asian foods and all things Asian, etc etc.

Ditto. That girl was fine. All and all, it wasn't so bad. I mean the fact that I am Asian and she isn't but wannabe had nothing to do with our relationship.
But if a non-Asian girl at a bar says 'ni hao' to me I prolly ignore her no matter how good she looks.

I've never dated one, but why not?
I met one girl at a Starbucks recently who started chatting me up. Constantly talking about dim-sum on Canal St., learning Japanese, interested in Koreans, all the signs. I don't mind talking about that stuff since, honestly, it was like talking to an Asian person sans the interest in Korean culture. She was a bit looney, not in terms of the Asian thing, but more of a general crazy.
If a girl says, "ahnyong", that's like big big bonus points there since I don't look Korean one bit and even my own people hate on me. I'd have to give her a chance just for that.

i used to have this crush on this white girl back in high school. she was blond, had the surfer curly hair going, with blue eyes. part italian, her dad was in jail. i hear she used to like me too, i'm not sure what happened, but i don't think she exoticized me at all.
i wouldn't date anyone who'd do something like that. maybe i'm being too idealistic.

Twice. Both times in England. Students of East Asian descent in Durham are like "ugly-small-town girl" magnets in the North East. The first time I was hit on by this short, pudgy girl with crooked teeth from Northumbria who didn't leave me alone for two months. I joined the "Chinese Society" under the false impression that there would be Chinese students there. Very little luck in that endeavour. Met her there. Quite disturbing.
Second time around involved my ex. She's a international student from Milan. Hotness. Broke up because I wanted to take a year off and it wasn't going to work anyway. Career wise she'll be in Italy (never wants to leave) and I'll either be in New York, San Francisco, or London.
I quite enjoyed being exoticised at first, but then it became really boring.

I don't think I was exactly exoticized for being Asian, but for being one of the very few foreigners in my city in Colombia.
The last non-asian girl that I dated was in Costa Rica, she was a lawyer, the high society type of girl, "well-traveled", and always "interested" about cultures.
One fine day, after I finished talking to my mom over the phone, she told me that she wanted to learn chinese from me.
Does it piss you off or do you like it?
It didn't bug me at first cuz I had never been around asians in my hole life, so I was used to being seen as a different thing, but after having dated asian-american girls and being treated just as a normal person I don't think I could go back to date non-asians.

Is a/n ___phile always *just* a/n ___phile or do circumstances such as sex create a sort of double standard in relation to how such individuals are perceived by the "exoticised" race in question?

Yes a few times. Although it is definitely a sexual-racial fetish and oriental exoticism, oh well... it can have some pleasurable physical benefits  like if she likes to do it alot o(^-^)o ... One girl even tried to look like east asian and hoped she had some hidden east asian ancestor! In reality she had naturally light brown frizzy hair she was Arab, but she straightened her hair and dyed it pitch black to hopefully attract Asian men! A bizzare, but memorable encounter.

Yes but since you don't have the ratio imbalance between AF/WM and WF/AM so it's allowed. Until the ratio is balanced, it can be excused as just "cultural ignorance."

Yeh the location effects it. Ive met non-Asian women with an Asian-fetish in both in North America and in Asia. The contexts are different. Like over there Asians are the minority so it happens less often. But here its the other way around since everyone is Asian more encounters occurs. I guess for non-Asian people with a racial-sexual fetish for Asians being in Asia is being in heaven! Here its much easier to get a non-Asian woman hook-up imo and theres more of them around, not just "Anglo Westerners" but also of other ethnicities, like theres also Russians, other East Europeans. Also Brazilians, Peruvians and a few Black Western women. Those women come all the way to over to Asia so they are obviously interested in Asian stuff already in most cases. Alot want to get married to a Japanese guy and live here. Most of those women are fine and some are acceptable, even with the fetish. I guess there are degrees of Asian fetish. From mild fetish to wild severe fetish. Like one I met here was an English girl who was really fun, but later she said she wanted to be impregnated by an Asian man and have half-Asian babies  Bizzare. I avoided her after that.

I don't see why the desire of having mixed babies is so odd. So many Asians think mixed babies are just darling. It's a common thing for Asians and non-Asians to think mixed babies are better.

I avoided that girl after her "declaration" since just dont see the appeal of having my sperm intentionally used to fullfill her fetishist dream of interracial "bonding". I just want to be someones human partner, not her racial-sexual guinea pig.
I've never met an Asian-phile girl, but hey, if I ever meet an one as least we have something in common. I know this sounds weird coming from a Chinese-American such as myself, but ever since my freshman year buddies got me into Anime, I've become a Japan-phile myself. Of course I know in my mind that Japanese people don't really look like anime characters, it's almost impossible not to feel some affinity for Japan and the Japanese language given how much anime I watch.

I've been thinking about this for a while...regarding white people wanting to marry asian or non-white so they can have these cute little mixed kids or whatever. Of course I'm not justifying this type of mentality, but it's not like most people have kids for the most honorable or admirable reasons anyway. I'm sure there are those that just wanna bear children cause they think babies in general are so cute or maybe they want to fit in with the rest of society without being stuck being the only guy/girl without kids to take care of, or they want to have a kid for self-fulfillment or something or have someone/something to love.

Oh the amusement of it all...
Hmm, hooked up with a caucasian girl once. Mostly an Asian fetish on her part. I was cool to a certain extent since I found out after the fact. But I couldn't take her seriously due to the fetish part. We called it quits.
Another girl I knew was very interested in me a long time ago when I first started college. Caucasian. Didn't interested me tho. Probably grouped me in with her anime and X-JAPAN fetish. Kept asking me about Japanese stuff that I had sparse knowledge about at the time.
Overall, I'm pretty picky about how girls view me. The whole fetish thing in the end is a huge turn-off for me.

Anyways, I had a friend, well I wanted us to be more than friends but it didn't work out like that, and she raved on and on about mixed babies and how she wanted one so badly. From my experiences, it's the Asians that like the white mixed babies more. But in Asia, it seems like there are more mixed black Asians in the music industry than mixed white Asians.

hey,
you're welcome.
Actually, I think you are wrong in your assumption that hapa immediately means half white/half asian. I'm sure there's a strong inclination to feel that way because of the light in which the media has portrayed half white/half anything celebrities and people in general. The main focus of the hapa issue does deal with half white however because in some instances, those hapa's can "pass." This is much less likely if half white was not one of the components of the hapa. (Remember that discussion about America's Top Model?)
There's no underlying condition in OUR SOCIETY that immediately takes away from hapa's of non-white roots. Perhaps there are residual affects of what society in general has placed on lighter skinned peoples, however this is not due to direct forces of the status quo. These are secondary characterisitice that may or may not be taken in the proper sense in minority populations. It's simply the process of racism that has been generated due to popular media's enforcement of white ideals into minorities. Ironically, this not only happens with hapas, but also in the immediate minority populations.
So you see that those not poisoned with the status quo's opinion of beauty are able to take you for who you are and what you physically represent. In short, don't trip cuz we might think you're hot.

But you have to admit that this sentiment is so common place- Asians and non-Asians want mixed babies.
The most common example would be Asian women wanting to hook up with White dudes to have beautiful mixed babies.
There are also those White women who get with Black dudes partly b/c they adore mulatto babies, esp. if these white women are more "inbred" in appearence.
Then you have those red haired white women who like Hispanic and Eurasian men.
As for White women wanting to have mixed kids with Asian guys, it's probably almost unheard of unless you're in say Asia or Hawaii.

Oh yah, true. In Japan theres like many White women who seem like theyre just dying to have it with some Japanese guy. Many are major Japanophiles. Like most of the White women who go to the trouble of coming here are into this whole samurai warrior thing.. its wierd. Especially after that movie Last Samurai, and there was that interracial movie, Japanese Story, an Australian woman and Japanese guy. A crappy movie. But lots of Aussie and NZ white girls with this, have it with a Japanese guy kind of fetish.

I think there's one currently after my husband. I call her his girlfriend.
i don't see it for myself, but my bf tells me about it every time a non-asian chick hits on him, looks at him "funny", or just gives off a vibe. he is NOT what you call gq at all: he's short, chubby, bald, wears glasses and just plain fobby-looking (i'm sorry but he is). sometimes i think he's just hallucinating and just really into himself cuz i really don't see what the attraction is at all.
currently he hangs out with this one guy, who's chinese, A LOT, and i call that guy his boyfriend.

One of the hottest girls I ever knew was an asiaphile...granted she was a needle in the haystack b/c let's face it most asiaphiles, male or female, are not exactly lookers...but anyway I guess I wasn't complaining or disgusted because I was only 18 years old and I wasn't informed of all the socio-political implications that come with such a fetish. It's because of her that I even know half the Asian pop stars I know now, and she took me to my first bubble tea place ever...kinda like say...if some white girl were to take Terrence to a soul food place for the first time. Of course now I would be a bit more weirded out...the Asian boyfriend she had later on confided in me that he hated how she dated only Asian guys because it meant that she wouldn't have considered being with him if he was some other race or ethnicity.
I've met some other female asiaphiles too....they were just more outwardly annoying because well...okay they weren't all that great looking and they kept telling me how much they knew about Asian people and bragging about how they could tell different types of Asians apart and shit. Every time I came across one of them in conversation I just wanted to impale myself on a stake.

Color Line Cuts Through the Heart
In the face of stereotypes, Lee ’08 looks ‘to make the Asian man sexy again’
Published On Wednesday, March 22, 2006 3:08 AM
By LOIS E. BECKETT
Crimson Staff Writer
Jimmy Zhao ’08 says his parents used to joke that if he ever brought a white girl home, at least they could be glad she wasn’t African American.
If Zhao, who is Chinese American, did bring an African-American girlfriend back to his New Jersey home, it wouldn’t only surprise his parents. It would be a statistical anomaly.
According to U.S. Census Bureau data analyzed by a sociologist at University of Massachusetts-Amherst, C.N. Le, just 0.1 percent of Chinese-American men have African-American wives, compared to 5.1 percent who are married to white women.
Zhao’s parents’ joke might be jarring to many, but it underscores the obstacles facing Asian-Americans who date across racial lines.
At Harvard, students say, interracial relationships involving Asian students seem relatively common, and they may not draw as much attention as other interracial pairings.
But even this prevalent form of interracial dating is bound by its own set of rules and expectations, which students say complicate every intersection of romance and race.
THE ASIAN FETISH
Relationships between Asian women and white men seem particularly commonplace, students say. According to Le’s data, a Chinese, Japanese, or Vietnamese woman is more than twice as likely as her male ethnic counterpart to have a white spouse.
Hovering over these relationships is the specter of the “Asian fetish,” Jean Yang ’08 says.
By that, Yang refers to a supposed white-male fantasy based on the stereotype that Asian women are exotic, or delicate, or more passive than females of other races.
Yang, who is Chinese American, says she would not want to date someone who was only attracted to her because of her ethnicity. Although the “Asian fetish,” is a familiar concept to her, she says it is not a concern in her present interracial relationship.
Christopher L. Hartl ’09 is dating a Chinese woman, and he says he doesn’t take the concept of the “Asian fetish” seriously.
But other non-Asian Harvard men have told Hartl that, on average, they are more attracted to Asian women than to women of other races.
Even so, he says, “if somebody says that he’s only attracted to Asian women, it’s not so much a fetish as a preference.”
‘KUNG FU FIGHTER’
Interracial dating is more problematic for Asian men, says Edward Y. Lee ’08, who is Korean American.
Asian men do not typically date outside of their race because they are stereotypically viewed as “very un-masculine,” Lee says.
He points out that few Asian men play for American professional sports teams. And in movies, he says, Asian men still only play two roles: the kung fu fighter and the angry store owner. Asian women, in contrast, are portrayed as having increasingly varied and prominent roles, Lee says.
“It’s my goal to make the Asian man sexy again,” he jokes.
Data on interracial marriage suggests that few Korean-American men cross ethnic lines—at least at the altar.
While 24.3 percent of Korean-American women have white husbands, just 3.9 percent of Korean-American men have white wives, according to Le of UMass-Amherst. Fewer than 0.1 percent have African-American wives, according to Le.
Just as media portrayals in the U.S. may distort Asian-American masculinity, images of African-Americans abroad may make it less socially acceptable for Asian Americans to date African Americans.
In China, Jimmy Zhao says, “the only black people you’re going to see on TV are in rap videos or other negative images.” The result, he says, is that the immigrant parents of some Chinese Americans “make assumptions about [African Americans] as a people in general.”
Other Asian-American students agreed that older generations might be reticent about their children dating African Americans due in part to stereotypes about socioeconomic status.
“I think Asian-American parents more look at economic status, and they see black and Latino Americans as having a lower economic status than whites,” Quinnie Lin ’09 says. “Because a lot of these Asian parents come to this country with the goal of building a better life and getting ahead...they always strive for the best for their kids.”
The expectation can be that “ideally you would marry up, and by marry up, we mean marry white,” says Sherri Y. Geng ’09, who is Chinese American.
BEYOND COLOR
Gayatri S. Datar ‘07, an Indian-American, also says that South Asian students usually face less family resistance if they date East Asians or Caucasians than if they date African Americans.
But, Datar stresses, religious tensions might weigh more heavily than racial stereotypes in their romantic choices.
“I’m sure that several Indian parents would much prefer their daughter to bring home a black guy than an Indian Muslim,” says Datar, who is Hindu.
Nationality can be a crucial issue when two nations have a history of conflict.
Deep tensions still linger between China and Japan, for instance, because of World War II. Geng, who is Chinese, says she might not pursue a serious relationship with a Japanese man because it would upset her grandfather.
“I feel like that would hurt him, so I’m going to refrain from doing it,” Geng says.
Susan Y. Yao ’09 says she understands the benefits of marrying someone who shares her cultural traditions and language—but thinks that is often an impractical goal. For instance, she would have to restrict her romantic options to fluent speakers of both Mandarin Chinese and Shanghainese, she says.
For Hartl, dating a Chinese woman means being one of the few whites at her Chinese Student Association gatherings. Being in the minority can sometimes be “awkward,” he says.
But in his Matthews Hall entryway, interracial relationships are par for the course. Four of his entryway-mates are also dating someone of another race, he says.
Biases about interracial dating can be changed, Jimmy Zhao says. After he told his parents he objected to their joke, they began to adjust the way they talked about interracial dating. Now, he says, they tell him often that it would be fine for him to date a girl of any race.
“Part of their change in attitude is genuine and part of their change is to cater to me, but I think that’s still a step in the right direction,” Zhao writes in an e-mail.
But, despite what they say, Zhao says he knows his parents still have reservations and preferences about his dating choices.
“For example, my parents absolutely expect my child to be able to speak Mandarin,” he writes. “But that’s something I would expect, too.”
Even when students are open to the option of interracial dating, many admit it isn’t easy.
Lee says his past interracial relationship was an “amazing experience.” At the same time, he added, “I think it was really hard to do.”

I don't thing it's wrong thing if you are dating with someone who is outside of your race. but It's big problem to make parents understand about that.
One of my friends had interracial dating on internet(okcupid.com) . He has good relationship with this girl till date but his parents against this relationship.
Does Anybody know how to handle this situation?

have you ever been the target of Asian fetish or exoticised by non-Asian women? or have you ever dated/been involved with non-Asian women that specifically like Asian men?
how was it like and how did you feel about that?
i have casually dated one non-Asian woman that had a thing for Asian men. i have to admit part of the reason i did that was because i thought she would be easy to get into bed. on a few occasions random non-Asian women have said "ni hao" to me before at a bar or some social settings. i usually ignored them or just smiled politely if i didn't find them attractive, but i talked to those who i thought looked good.
why do you care. Most of the time if non asian girls are attracte dto Asian guys its cause of the asian features.
there are 3 type of girls that like Asian guys:
- Doesnt give a fuck about race, and just find you attractive and likes your persnonality.
- Like your bank account
- Has a Asian fetish.

how was it like and how did you feel about that?Kinda. There was this one British girl who was really interested in me although I think a lot of was because of her love of anime and final fantasy and all that. I think she somehow got the idea that everything Asian was cool. It was nothing serious though.
To be fair, the exoticisation was mutual - at the time I had quite a thing for British women. But now that I'm actually here, reality has hit me hard in the face!

The core principles are indeed the same for all genders and races. Though instead of a list flow chart would be better?
Is individual in question correspond to my sexual orientation?
N - person is evil asiaphile
Y - continue
Is individual in question hot in eyes of the Asian objectified?
N - person with fetish is evil asiaphile
Y - continue
Does the fetish increase my chances of sexing him/her?
N - too bad
Y - continue
Does sexy time with qualified person reach parity with blabbering about Asian stuff?
Less than equal - disqualified
Equal to - end is near
Greater than - continue
Can person move on from blabbering or at least be shut up long enough?
N - dump
Y - continue
Is person so incredibly hot and worth mental baggage?
N - dump
Y - you love him/her long time
