Ok, leave it to the shadow moderator to start a completely inappropriate topic.

What does everyone think about eunuchs, at least in history? I think they rock cuz they get all the power since no one suspects them of anything, they get to feast their eyes w/ hot chicks all day every day in the emperors' harems, and if they'd like to enjoy the chicks in another sense...all they gotta do is make a dildo. Plus if only their organs-within-their-scrotum are cut off, then they can still use the rest of their organ, right?


Oh and in some movies, they do cool kung fu too!

I feel sad about how eunuchs were FORCED to be eunuchs as kids--- but if it were a voluntary post, might not be too bad. And it's a pity they always get killed when the going goes rough. but when they ARE in power, they totally rock!

Hmm i dunno...I might actually if I knew the rewards would be great. But then again most eunuchs probably just slaved away and never achieved anything big. I mean whatever, as long as i can piss and as long as i don't get killed by the operation, and as long as my penis can be sexually stimulated in some fashion, i'm not sure if i'd really miss my testes that much.

one of the greatest, perhaps the greatest admiral in Chinese history was the eunuch Zheng He in the Ming Dynasty. he made incredible voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and even Africa. but then due to Confucian scholars gaining more infuence in the royal court, China became isolationistic, those voyages were banned, and ships of a certain size too large were banned from being built. if not for this, China could have dominated the sea over European powers.

an important role that eunuchs usually play in the balance of power happens during the rise to power of a new young emperor. when an emperor died, the balance of power usually shifted to the empress and her relatives while the newly crowned emperor was young and had not solidified influence. over the years, the emperor would consolidate his power with the support of the eunuchs in the royal court. so in that sense, it was a struggle for influence between the empress dowager and her relatives, and the emperor and his eunuchs.

Yeah and he was a Muslim, too. Under-rated people, Muslims and eunuchs. Over-rated for their evil, but under-rated for their kick-assedness.

most accounts of the operation in question claim it's not just cut off the testes and leave the penis. Everything must go, in order to prevent eunuchs from having either the desire or the equipment with which to mess about with the harem.

yeesh just visited that site AliBaba referenced. 90% fatality rate during the operation. :frown: But for those who survived, it says they have a longer life than normal men...so that's somewhat a compensation.

Yes testosterone is one of the main culprits on why women live longer than men. I'm still not cutting myself short though!

ew. i just remember the scene in 'the last eunuch' where they tried to cut off the kids balls with a butcher knife but they failed to cut it all the way, and it was just hanging there and the kid was screaming like crazy...

the eunuchs in that movie had to keep their balls in a jar--and there are rooms in the palace filled with these jars. they keep them so that when they die they can be buried with them--so that they can reincarnate with a complete body. there's another scene in 'the last eunuch' where the palace is set on fire and every eunuch, rather than exiting the palace, runs to the balls room to retrieve their balls. they were tripping over one another and the jars were falling on the ground and breaking as a result of the chaos. i don't recall exactly what happened to the main character's balls, but i think somebody stepped on them...or a dog ate them...

anyhow, he eventually left the palace and ran into a girl from his village. they fell in love...until she found out that he was a eunuch. in the end, she leaves him for another guy.

after watching that move, i don't the life of a eunuch is really all that enviable.

Well if it's a choice between being alone without power, without companionship, perhaps losing your hair (which wouldn't help your chances of changing the second), and having a shorter lifespan ...

OMG! This is funny, because me and my best friend from college were in Chinese History class together, and we seemed to be fixated with eunuchs.

In fact, that's how we'd greet each other, sometimes, "what up eunuch?" My friend is a Chinese dude, and his last name is sort of rare, and because his family is on the rich/prominent side he's convinced that there are a few eunuchs in his family tree who crossed the emperor, which has resulted in him and 2 cousins being the only known males to carry his family name.

We were also convinced that the eunuchs had sex with the emperors wive(s) in... other ways.

yeah, they use their magical powers (as evident in all kungfu films w/ eunuchs) to regenerate their testicles and penises, which are detachable and used only when the emperor isn't looking.

eunachs had so much powers during so many periods much in chinese history.

For example, in the middle to late periods of the Tang dynasty, eunachs basically run the show. They decide who to put on as emperors and they even kill him if they don't like him.

However, the sacrifices are pretty high, too......;) :D

Perhaps too much power. Wasn't it an eunuch who led to the demise of the first emperor to unify China?

For those given a choice (if any), I wonder how many would volunteer to be eunuched because of such power.
