I saw this yesterday and I was disappointed. Maybe I had high expectations after thoroughly enjoying the 1st one, and after reading the books. The 2nd film sort of follows on where the 1st left off, with Bridget and Mark being a couple.

At the beginning, it tries hard to follow the book...but after a few minutes, it's clear to see that it has no intention. In the book, Rebecca is described as Bridget's friend, in the film, she is Mark's secretary and has no relationship to Bridget. Some of the same situations occur in the film as in the book, but not the same way. Hence diverting from the book moreorless completely. They missed out a lot of stuff which was covered in the book, and they progressed the storyline so that it's possible that there will be a Bridget Jones 3.

Around the middle, is where the film starts getting very messy. Not only is there a twist to Rebecca's character, which is so not in the book, the ending is also very implausible. *excuse my cynicism* And at the end, a whole lot of things happen, not 'cos they were in the book by Helen Fielding, but it just turns into a big mess. Hence, setting the scene for movie no. 3.

I really liked the books, and I really like Renee Zellweger - I think she plays Bridget perfectly. As for Colin Firth, phwoarrrrrrr *drool* Hugh plays the lovable cad brilliantly too.

But being a person who reads the books before the movie (enabling me to fantasise about how I would like the storyline to be), I was hugely disappointed that this movie failed to live up to my expectations. Yes, it was funny, sad in places, just like in true Bridget style, but it just got too unbelievable in the end - and it felt like they were putting things in just to tie all the loose ends up. Which didn't work.

Anyways, enough about my rant. What did you think?

ha ha ha..I liked the first one too, but the buzz on this one was that there was very little point to it and the critix weren't very sympathetic, either. Only if my date pulls my paws to see this will I go, which is how I saw the first one and ended up liking it a lot. But when you have $10.50 movie tickets with no matinee prices (in the city that is) you tend to be a leeeetle more discriminating with your choice of flicks!
