the first time i ever ever ever drank homo milk was during kyushoku, lunchtime, at school in japan. up until that time i was accustomed to skim milk or 1%. it tasted SOO so gross and foreign to me. i was like barf barf barf .. the kids told me i HAD to finish it before going out, so i forced myself to take it down.
my parents never made me drink milk as a kid, and i never ate cereal for breakfast when i was younger, either. =\

when i was a child, my dad always bought 2% milk.... Then, in college, I changed to skim. Since then, I never went back to 2% b/c i could tell it was creamier...blah. Skim suits me b/c it tastes like water, which is what i drink most of the time anyway.

no milk for me either... but when i do drink it, i drink whole milk. 2% is just barely cutting it, but nonfat/skim is just... water with white food coloring...

I drink milk frequently, but not every day. Usually it's whole milk, or some kind of protein enhanced milk. The other stuff is too watery for me. Is it just me, or did a lot of you that drink milk get weird comments from other Asians for that habit ?

i drink milk every day. like at least a quart, usually two. and yeah, in high school all these abcs who bitch about how the dairy industry is a giant white man's conspiracy to exclude Asians from mainstream society tolo me I'm obviously not really asian since I can digest lactose.
also, any bay area people have trouble with clover-stornetta brand milk over the summer? every time i heated that stuff in the microwave, it solidified into a sorta jello-like state ... really disgusting. especially if you put it in coffee or macaroni and cheese beforehand.

1% or sometimes skim. I often don't like to drink it alone. I like strawberry or chocolate milk. Milk alone sometimes makes me sick.
When I was younger, it'd be whole milk all the time. Now that I'm striving to be more health conscious, I drink 2% milk. (I need to make room for all the other shit that I eat) I can't stand skim milk--it's friggin' blue! Creamy is good.
I pretty much only drink it with cereal unless there's really nothing else to drink.

the weird thing with me when it comes to milk is that i grew up drinking the powered kinda milk... i dont know what you call it... but yeah, my family.. we made the milk... with this white powder.. and just added water to it... I guess you can call it the skim milk type.. cuz it was fat free and everything... and i loved it. And when i was little it was the whole milk that i didnt like. Like when i went into restaurants, i could never order their milk cuz it tasted funny to me...
but yeah, i've matured and my taste buds have changed.. and yeah, i prefer whole milk over skim now... but i usually drink 2% milk tho...

One percent, but only for cereal and coffee. I also drink fat-free soy milk mixed with protein powder.

Powdered milk, UGH! That shit is nasty.
When I lived in the mid-west we had to drink that stuff when the winter snowstorms prevented us from getting to the store.
Yecchh.

From medschool, I learned Asians tend to be more lactose-intolerant than other ethnicities. Not sure if there is much truth to that from this polling...
Anyone drink Soy or Lactaid?
Personally, I used to love drinking milk all the time. We would add Hershey's Syrup or Nestle Quik (mmm Strawberry). The best was 1-2tbls of honey and stirred in. I buy the 1% now for health reasons and probably couldn't drink the homogenized stuff.

I take lactase pills and buy organic 2%. I also have powdered soy (Chinese kind) and buy soy in a milk carton (American kind).

Skim milk for me.
But like 1 glass a day tops. Unfortunately, lactaid doesn't work for me.

I love Vitasoy (in the white boxes with the blue characters). I still drink 'em every now and then. Of course, it doesn't have the calcium of real milk.
I only have problems with lactose intolerance if I drink a whole 1/2 gallon carton in one sitting (which I learned back in high school as I desperately tried to increase my height...it didn't work).

Go drink some milk and eat some dairy products and if you don't have the sudden urge to vomit or go to the bathroom, you should be alright and prolly not lactose intolerant.

i did not know you could feel like vomitting. i am somewhat lactose intolerant but all it ever does is make me run to the bathroom if i had too much.

Nah, never tried it though I've seen it before and often remarked on how they could've come up with a better name.

Wait--is there a third flavor? 'cause I know there's Chocolate as well...
When I used to make skin care products, one of the products was a protein face cream. For the protein, we used those big boxes of unsweetened Vitasoy!

got tons of flavors ... regular in the white & blue box, malt in the brown box with yellow-brown writing, no additives in those weird blue and yellow boxes that don't look anything like the others, chocolate in the brown box, melon in the green box. there's others too.
actually if you'll check out the ingredients list, you'll notice that regular and malt-flavored have milk solids or milk powder in them. so does chocolate. not sure about melon. so much for a lactose-free drink.

Doh! I forgot all the recipes. And I don't think my boss even made me sign a non-disclosure agreement so I could actually tell you how to do it if I remembered. Most creams were 65-75% water, the remainder being mostly coconut oil, wheatgerm oil, and coconut emulsifiers. Then there was the vitamin e, orchid oil and the grapefruit seed extract as a preservative. Of course, there were the fragrances (mostly lemon and orange oils). That's all I remember.
