Haiku

The twilight air cools
Whispering breezes gently
pass over the grass

Crickets chime their song
giving voice to the night air
Euphonious blends

Ponder though we may
the mysteries surrounding
life and death evade

God speaks quietly
His voice thunders through the sky
We see a mountain

Sobs fill the heavens
in concert with a bubbling
Whom shall we blame?

One who never sees
Can only imagine what
Death brings to families

Somewhere life begins
Baby born into the world
Morning has broken

Written for a classroom assignment about our experiences with hospice (care for the dying).

To be honest, it is a little difficult to take the poem seriously when it's right next to a cartoon of a fat, dancing bunny...
