Have you even been in a situation where an Asian female has purposely played up to stereotypes? Did it ever happen in college or at the work place? How did it affect you if it did at all? Did it place some unfair burden on you to debunk it? What would be your advice to another woman who had to deal with someone like this?

i havent ever been in a situation where Asian females play upto particularly Asian stereotypes, most Asian women i intereact with are pretty clued up and intelligne thank god!!
i hate when women act up to stereotypes like being ditzy or slutty or whatever becasue they think it might impress a guy...that ticks me right off...i dont mind debunking it, probably im far to prepeared for argument and fisticuffs!! (must be the black blood!!), i think when women do that, it can be unfair in the sense that men will cling to that and go well a woman said/does it so it must be ok, making you have to convince (or punch) him that little harder
example: i am against pornography, while having a debate about it with some friends, (obviously all the guys were against me)..this girl pips up and goes, well i think anyone who doesnt like porn is sexually repressed..i was like *deep breath* here we go....and while we were talking she was acting really ditzy as if that made her more feminine or something and me some kind of rabid dyke....grrr i hate that kind of shite..

Could be she was really disagreeing with you personally, but I see what you're saying...it was all in the way she came across, trying to make you seem less attractive the group of guys thereby making herself more acceptable, or accessible to them, as the case may be.

i actually know her..and she is a rather promiscuous kinda gal, and the sad thing is i think she is only like that because she thinks it makes men happy, rather than for herself..i dunno, i just find it sad when women play this pathetic game of doing what they think makes them look good or cool in mens eyes..which she tends to do quite alot..like she also started talking about blowjobs..and i was thinking what the..where did this come from??!!

I've noticed that a lot of Asian North American females who play into those stereotypes, often don't like find Asian men attractive. Ironic, isn't it? Whatever. There are reasons for why certain things are stereotypes. My mother's pretty bad about it. She wants me to go find a woman who fits a lot of those "traditional characteristics". I told her that I'm not attracted to that... as if there's a lot of them around, to begin with. Even when I bump into the odd one, it's rare and they're not into Asian guys, anyway. Not anywhere in North America, anyway. In a little village, in some isolated part of China, maybe.
Only racist believe in those stereotypes about Asian women. In my opinion, only racist (I'm referring to those certain few Asian North American females) play into it, for reason of wanting to be accepted by Western society. They're a perfect match. Neither of them are attracted to a person for the right reasons. We should let them get together, have fun... and chuck them into th ocean, to see how long the air in their heads will keep them floating.

^-- i find that too.
friends that i have who play up the asian female stereotype tend to be those who are predominantly attracted to white men for whatever reason. they also have no idea what asian american consciousness is, or think it's too militant. either way, i find these girls aggravating and even personally offensive. i challenge them when i can, or otherwise try to have as little to do with them as possible.
so... i guess 'friends' in that paragraph above, should really be in quotes.

Only racist believe in those stereotypes about Asian women. I don't know. I think sometimes people can just be that sheltered and ignorant. I don't know how many times when I was in the military cats from really small town USA had said they've never seen a "colored person" except for on tv. So media is all they have to go off of.

Is being ignorant the same as being racist?I never said that, where the hell did you get that from?
If you read the post I was repsonding to I was showing that you DON'T need to be racist to believe in stereotypes.

If you read the post I was repsonding to I was showing that you DON'T need to be racist to believe in stereotypes.Your comment reminded me of my old college roommate who took an entire roll of film at basic training on the first black person he met. I asked myself that same question at that time.
