View Full Version : Ladies, what's the worst thing you ever done to yourself?

C'mon...you know you've done it...whether it was the '80s hair overtease (that made you look like a damn poodle) or makeup disasters you'd like to share (were you going for the grunge look but ended up like the grunge queen reject instead?)...it's time to come clean.

Ok, I just had to get this off my chest...in fourth grade, I had those hideous shoulder pads under my shirts and I tied my hair (side ponytail) so tight, my hair would fall out. Then fifth grade, I curled my hair every night and went on hairspray overload. Not a good idea! So, I'm lucky I have all the hair that I have now (except when I go to those expensive hair salons, I get overcharged dammit cuz I have so much)...I really should be bald or something. In middle school, I wore all the baggy shit that made people want to throw nickels at me cuz I looked like such a bum. In high school, I looked ridiculous...like a cheap hoochie. Thank God those days are over!!!!!

Now it's YOUR turn...don't be shy. Chances are we've all been there and done that.

I had a ridiculous amount of money spent on putting extensions in my hair.

It was heavy. The style was done so tight that my eyebrows were raised and my scalp was puckered. It was bad.

I looked damn cute that the agony was too much.

so_fee_ahh
10-05-2004, 09:39 AM
Don't extensions run into like into the hundreds and can cost up to thousands of dollars? That's cool...I always wanted to do that. Have short hair one day and bam! Long hair the next...but I unno...seems like too much money wasted and I wouldn't be able to sit still while they were putting it in.

Hey kimpossible, run by a list of all the beauty no-no's you committed during the grand '80s. I don't know but the '80s and the '90s are sometimes the decades I am afraid to look back on. How the fuck could spandex EVER have been in? It's gross when you see the ladies who used to be teens back when, in the grocery stores, still rocking their spandexes. I just wanna smack them and say, "YOU'RE 20 LBS OVERWEIGHT! GET OUTTA THAT SPANDEX AND PUT DOWN THAT BEN & JERRY'S!"

Mine were plaited from synthetic hair.

I remember it as being $75 dollars (or was it $80?). Everyone else remembers it as $100.

They are probably right. My brain wasn't getting much circulation that day. I wouldn't doubt if my memory is a bit hazy.

Hey kimpossible, run by a list of all the beauty no-no's you committed during the grand '80s.

Oh, where to start.

Balloon pants (Hammertime!)
geometric patterned sweaters
mall bangs
blue eyeshadow
jordache and sassoon jeans
pegging pants and tucking into slouch socks and high-top Reeboks
possibly a blazer or two
collars pulled up
banana clip (the hair type, not the gun type)

And lest I not convey the severe amount of perming I underwent to get my super straight hair to feather and tease out, I should say I was addicted to perms because they would never last on me. Though I did experience a short semi-cool phase where I alternated between preppie and new wave. Instead of perms, I dyed my hair various colors and thought I was the shit listening to Dead Kennedys and Siouxsie.

perms. i had all kind of perms.

and cavariccis. i used to wear them
with the hem folded to mimick
the balloon pant look.
with keds and push down socks.

shaddup.
that was cool back then.

yup. first was leggings and sideways ponytails - elementary school.
then the hairsprayed feathered bangs, guess jeans, and keds - middle school.
and then came the baggy mens clothes and nike deschutz sandals - high school.
oh, freshman year, i also had a long tail down my back (that i kept in either one curl or three braids) to go with shoulder-length hair. don't laugh. i can say that i was the ONLY person in school with that hairstyle. um...yeah.

in college, i think the worst i've ever done was bleach streaks of my hair. one time, the guy fried my hair, so the strands became elastic and stretchy.

yeah, pink. ew.

A lot of that 80's rocker/punk clothing is back in style. I went to a "kiddie" party like a year and a half ago and I saw so many "punk" Asians that I couldn't help but laugh. It was so funny, damn high school kids - i couldn't tell the guys apart from the girls they all had that punk spikey hair! Hilarious if you ask me.....

so_fee_ahh
10-07-2004, 11:43 AM
Sy, what's wrong with pink? Punk, better take that back!

I kinda like the '80s fashion...just some of it...you know, with the whole shirt with the one shoulder showing ("SKIN IS IN!"). But yeah, I don't know about the girls and guys looking the same with the spikey hair...hey ladies! What do you think about guys in tight pants? I saw a couple HOT guys who play in this band and they were rocking them out at the JAXX club...*swoons* But wouldn't that cut off the blood circulation or something? *scratches head*

to stay on topic, i think if you have ever done a crazy diet, you've probably done something bad to yourself. for years, i went through periods of starving (this period lasted 5 full months), bingeing, diet pills, smoking. that's pretty damaging to the body, as well as the mind. My mother dressed me until I was 15. I also have not kept any pictures of my life between the ages of 4 and 15. Coincidence? No.

In fifth grade I decided I would go to the hair cutting place all by myself and get a haircut. I didn't speak Korean, the cutter didn't speak english. I walked out with about a half an inch of hair left because I was too shy to tell her to stop cutting.

Oh, from seventh grade to 10th grade I rocked elephant bells (huge bellbottoms) HARD. I also shopped at garage sales and thrift stores and wore grandma clothes. Double knit polyester was my friend.

When I was 17 I found a hat in a garbage can. I washed it and wore it.

Oh, and I forgot my grungy pseudo-goth phase. Huge baggy clothes, funky nailpolish, purple lipstick, greasy hair, flannels. That lasted about 6 months.

I still have a hard time picturing the manly men wear pink which is why it's so amusing, maybe the metrosexual/fashion conscious types would pull it off without being labelled a "poofter" or whatever. As with what you worn, what colour was the tie? If you were walkin' the walk then sure!
