Do you feel being mixed Asian is an advantage or disadvantage? Have you ever wanted to be more or less Asian than you are?

I'm pretty happy to be mixed. Variety is the spice of life.
Oh blech. Cliches should go to hell.

Well sometimes, I don't feel quite as "Asian" or "Japanese" as I probably should, because I grew up in the states and never learned the language fully. I can only speak it barely. And I haven't seen too many Japanese where I live, only Chinese and Koreans.

I like being mixed. It gives me an excuse for having more than one opinion on a situation.
I never wanted to be more or less Asian, however I did want to be more normal (I mean regarded as normal by non-mixed people) and I often wished the American and Japanese aspects of my life would fit together better (ie going to American school M-F, Japanese school on Saturday, Japanese homework on Sunday, no time to play!).
Although my sisters and I have always thought of ourselves as unique - not in the "we're so special" way, more like "we're like our mother but not like her, like our father but like him" - it's only recently that I've begun to think this way when I'm interacting with people outside my family. A lot of non-mixed people get annoyed when Hapas identify with more than one culture; IMO people are a lot more 'mixed' than they think they are. I think it's sad that most people in the US have this attitude that culture is inherent to race and you can't mix one without mixing the other. I grew up in a town that was about 90% Italian-American, and in High School almost all of my friends were Jewish, and although I don't consider myself Italian or Jewish, I still feel at home in those cultures.

I don't know if me being mixed Asian (not sure if you mean mixed with another Asian strain or non-Asian) has an advantage or disadvantage. Even if I weren't, I still wouldn't know what the difference would be.
Have you ever wanted to be more or less Asian than you are?
Sure, lots of times. But for various reasons which are usually prompted whenever you feel isolated or different. Same as physical attributes, wish you had a certain color hair, a certain height, a certain size, etc.
In the case of being more or less Asian, I'm always singled out by Filipinos when they realize I don't speak their language. Then they make the next assumption after finding out that I'm from Hawai'i that my ancestors spoke another language from them, which is true except they narrow it down to one particular language. Even if I could speak the language, sometimes I wonder if it would make me feel more Filipino.
Now I'm learning more and have been learning about my Chinese side.
Honestly, I think I'm more Asian than I'd thought I'd be. *L*

Too blessed to be stressed by what people think of me. I have the love of two parents that taught me to love me despite what others my say or do to me. Sure you cry alot when you're a kid. But hopfully you get over it. Because you're not the problem. It's those that can't deal with us Hapa's that have the "real" problem.

As for looks, it's the luck of the draw. I'm pretty handsome I think, and I've seen some fine mixed people, but I've also seen some damn fugly ones too. Mixing does not guarentee good looks.
I think the only advantage is that I can see an issue from both sides if it pertains to AAs and Whites.
I can also act as an undercover spy as Korean and Japanese people freely talk in front of me in whatever language thinking I don't understand when I do. Also whites who don't know me talk freely and un-pc around me thinking i am one of them.
But fuck this best of both worlds shit. Or being able to fit in both cultures bullshit. That is freakin impossible.
Wow, why am I cussing.

Pro: After the waiter/waitress give you a fork, you surprise them by speaking back in Chinese. The restauranteur feels stupid that he considered you a non-Asian and will therefore give you more food/better service.
You can flip flop depending on how you can get the advantage. You can say u are Asian or not and they will believe you.
Con: People spend way too much time staring and trying to figure out what the hell you are. I'm not a zoo animal!
