My parent's would say to me when I bring home some of my girlfriend's to meet them: "Oh she's too pretty. She's gonna be too high maintenance for your lifestyle. Other guys are going to pursue her."
Anyone else's parent's say this to them? I really don't understand this at all. Like uh yeah, aim high for a girlfriend, but aim a little lower for a wife? That's bullshit, I think. Being hot does not automatically equate to high maintenance and/or infidelity.
Thanks MK for reminding me of this.

hmm yes, but i would like to think that when i feel old enough to think about marriage, i'd give alot of leeway in the looks department... umm... not that i myself am especially good looking or anything... <_<

I believe when it comes time for me to settle down and get married I'm not gonna settle, I want it all, I want my cake and eat it too (Never did understand this saying).
To spend possibly the rest of your life with someone, I don't really think there's room to settle. If, I wanted to settle, I won't get married.
I know it sounds a little idealistic, but the whole concept marriage and wanting to marrying someone, I believe you're allowed to raise that bar a lot.
Call me shallow but that entails the looks department, I'm not budging on my idea of the perfect or near perfect woman/wife.
I just don't feel I should sell myself short when it comes to marriage.

i guess you're right. i suppose i just want to think that looks will be alot less important to me when i am thinking about marriage. and don't forget that the woman's looks will fade over time. how much time will you spend on looking for the perfect woman? as far as experience has shown me, there is always someone better.

Agreed, that's why I always look at my current gf's mom to see how they age, to get a general idea.
yes there is always someone better, grass is always greener on the other side, but I figure that'll be out of my system by the time I am looking to settle down (hopefully).
I, for one, think you deserve the works MK!

hahhah ok thanks and you too. B)
well ok i'm not saying that i would marry someone who i find physically unattractive. but i think we are basically saying the same thing... that the emphasis on looks will be "out of my system" when i am actually thinking about marriage.

wow bun boy sure has some technique for guessing how hot his future wife will remain for how long. Checking out gf's mom. I gotta try that when i have to deal w/ that stuff. :)

Actually I've mostly experienced the opposite, that my parents would say "she's not good enough for you", I hate it, if your parents tell you that you suddenly don't like your partner yourself anymore.

yeah, doc. never got that one either. if i had cake, why the hell wouldn't i eat it? hardy har.
it's okay. remember you were saying you had a feeling you'd get divorced sometime in your life? (well, 50%) just marry a hot bitch, and when she gets rubbery, wait around, browse the market, and catch another one.
=X
maybe i'm taking it a little too lightly.

do what's best for you, doc. like mid-surgery, if there's a leak somewhere, ya gotta patch it up if you don't want further damage/problems. same thing with anything else in life. if the first one doesn't work, neeeext.

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
my ex-gf had that song playing on several occasions when i randomly stopped by her room. subliminal message, i guess. we didn't end up getting married. hahahaha ....

My husband scoped out my mom before marrying me too. He was pretty open about wanting to predict how I would age before we got married. I did pretty much the same about him and baldness. I made sure his mother's dad still had his hair.

...well since i am hot... ...my mr. doesn't think i'm high maintenance...i tend to entertain myself alot....you pretty much know how someone is going to be for years to come if you know their core values...and how they're going to treat you by their level of respect and commitment to you...but, it's a two way street...you have to be willing to invest in each other...being flexible...we all grow and change...
...so if your a hottie...does that mean if a hot girl falls hard for you she shouldn't pursue you and it might not work out because some other hottie might catch her eye...sounds pretty shallow to me...

:pissed: my mom has told me that my girlfriend is too good for me too. it pises me off. i think she's trying to sabotage my relationships or something. like when i had this relationship w/ a caucasian girl she'd start telling her about our personal family problems. sorry mom, my gf isn't a therepist. this will just make her think i'm insane.
 i dunno if she doesn't want me w/ certain girls or she wants to pick one for me. i don't get it. she's hard to satisfiy.
<_< how can a girl be too good for you?
