Only pingpong can't answer, cuz I know for a fact that he is. Personally, I haven't worked out in a few months -- but that's okay! Sooner or later I'll work up the courage to get back into the gym.

I go to the gym three or four times a week, and mountain bike on the weekends. Also, cut all (or most, anyway) of the totally bad junk out of my diet. Still, gotta have a pizza once in a while.
That leaves me at 160 pounds, with 11 percent body fat, which is waaaay down from the 178 pounds and 17 percent body I was just over a year ago. Not rippled yet, but I'm working on it.
I also do stupid shit like this. (http://real.azcentral.com:8080/ramgen/realvideo/rep/bullrun.rm) Yes, that's me in the orange.

It's a line from one of my favortie movies, "Suicide Kings"
There's a part when a homeless person carrying a bucket and rags tries to wash a mob doods (played by Dennis Leary) Benz window. When Dennis Leary gets out of the car to tell the bum to get away the bum asks for some money and then says.. " C'mon man... You got a Benz.... I got a busket (meaning 'bucket')" Well, I really liked it.
I highly recommend the movie. Chirstopher Walken is in it... Jay Mohr too and the kid from E.T.!!! and the dood that plays Ray Romano's brother.

Why go to the gym? You've already got a girlfriend. The time is ripe to grow that pot-belly you've always dreamed of. Hahaha! (Girls probably don't find the humor in this)
I still go to gym twice a week. Why? I have no idea. They won't love me for my brains or my body and I have no money. WTF?!

I don't think gyms are overrated. It all depends on how you view it. The way I see it is that if I am going to take the time to get in my car and drive over there, I am going to maximize my time while I am there. Plus it's more motivating being in a place with other people who are doing the same thing. I am pretty biased though. I go at least 4 times a week.
On bench pressing- Who cares how much someone can bench press. That doesn't mean a thing. It's not how much you lift, but how you lift it.

Hahaha true true, Mr. Moderator.
On the real, I been lifting since college (about 10 years now). It's like 80% diet/20% weights. From fall to summer I do the bulking cycle (5'11 210 lbs) and spring to summer I do the cutting cycle (5'11 180-190 with about 10-12% bf). Yes you can lift and just get cut, but if you want the really "shredded look" you have to pack on some muscle. This allows you to burn calories more effectively since muscle requires more calories to sustain itself, thus jacking up your metabolism.
If you wanna get ripped fast, you can go on a high protein low carb diet (carb source only being unprocessed carbs like whole wheat, oat meal, brown rice). This enables your body to use fat as an energy source with the high protein maintains the muscle. However, it's very hard to maintain it, since your blood sugar level will be mad low, also don't advise this if you have high cholesterol.
You also don't have to spend hours in the gym. I do a 2 on 1 off/ 2 on 2 off cycle (Day 1 chest and triceps, Day 2 Back, Day 3 off, Day 4 Delts and Biceps, Day 5 Legs and Day 6 and 7 off) at about 30 min - 45 min sessions.
And CrX you're mad strong benching 225 at 150'ish, mad props.
Just sharing my experience for the fellas so they can look good for the ladies![/quote:fbfa089308]

achtung, he's talking about form. Form is the most important factor in stimulating your muscle correctly. The key is to maximize the amount of weight you use while not sacrificing form. Since benching is the biggest ego exercise ("how much do you bench etc etc"). Alot of peeps sacrifice form in order to lift the big weights, as a result risking injury and not properly stimulating the muscle fibers in the chest.
In the case of the bench press which works chest, you want to control the weight and not sacrifice form for the sake of poundage. For example (not tooting my own horn). I never tried how heavy I can go on bench for a 1 rep max, but I have worked up to 315 (3plates on each side) for 5-6 reps before failure (before your partner has to assist you) and another 1-2 force reps(assisted reps from your partner). So I would guess my 1 rep max on bench is about 365 lbs tops. But when I work out my chest, I only work up to 275 for 10-12 reps as my final set. Because from past experience, I found I can stimulate my chest better and get a better pump if I keep my reps for chest around the 10-15 rep mark with 1 to 2 minute rests in between sets.
So, go hit the gym achtung!

I get enough reps at home! You do about 15, you say?
Try 90. A [i:547891182a]minute[/i:547891182a]! Keystrokes, that is.
Actually I'm pretty familiar with a gym. I used to play football in high school and it's just easy to get addicted to working out. I used to organize my work out routines in class...! But I guess I was more addicted to football, because once it was over, so was the pumping (weights). I was just curious what jspence meant, because good form is a requisite to a good max, not the other way around...unless you have midget arms or something.
365lb you say...?? Jesus...Asians are getting stronger everyday. I remember thinking 300lbs was the golden mark, since I didn't know any Asians who could do it. Now everyone can!

Cool achtung. Yeah it's addicting. I wasn't as hardcore as I was in college. I revolve my workouts around my rotations here at the hospital so it works ok. I can squeeze in 4 workouts a week at 30-45 min sessions.
My training partner does 405lbs for 10-12 reps but he's on a 8 week cycle of e-test. deca, d-bol and winstrol aka crank, sauce, juice, roids.
So long as your stroking keys not stroking to kill them kitties, it's all good!
You're up early, ain't it like 5:30 am there in LA?

Yeah, Chasiubao_Boy is right; I am talking about form.
Yes, good form is a requisite to a good max, but if you use strict form with varying positions and speed, you can make almost any weight effective for you. I honeslty don't know how much I can max. Each time I do a power workout, I add a little more weight and slowly build up. I really hate to see guys that are trying to lift way to much weight and bending their body all over the place to do it. Why? I'm not impressed. I would be more impressed to see someone do a lot less weight with many reps and good form. Even if someone said, "That guy is weak, he can only lift ____ pounds." I would say, "Yeah, but he had good form."

okay, so maybe i am a voyeur.... but don't you guys think it's really sexy when a girl jumps into the weight room and just starts hitting the weights, and actually knows what she's supposed to be doing? That's when my water breaks between sets used to hit a peak. Okay, so yah i must admit i'm a fucking dog, but it's just that i can't help it, it's like a disease. I try not to look, but I feel guilty, as if i've missed out on something. damn.
any recommendations on one of those chain gyms? I had 24 hour fitness before, which was good because my location was actually open 24 hours. but now i left college, moved back home and the 24 hour fitness is more like a 16 hour fitness. And the Bally's over here is packed and whack. Any other chains to look for?

I been going to Golds Gym. Maybe check that out first, tre.
Yeah and I agree with ya J-Spence, you see people with their lower back so far off the bench it looks like they are trying to make love to the bar or they bounce the damn weights off their chest. I give peeps more props that use good form and controlled movements than peeps that lift crazy amount of weight with poor form. If you use good form, yeah your not gonna lift the big weights at first, but you'll build the muscle needed to lift big later.

Sounds like you've been lifting for awhile and know what you are doing Chasiubao. What Gold's Gym do you go to? Don't say Venice 'cause that's where I go. I have to say that it's the best gym I've ever been to if you are serious about fitness. The cool thing about that gym other than the fact that everyone is fit, is that you see people like Kobe Bryant gettin' his lift on and no one bothering him; like he's just a regular guy. That took a little getting used to for me at first.

Cool, J-Spence, it's a good to meet another Asian BB'er. Whats your training schedule like? Mine is:
Day 1 Chest and Triceps
Day 2 off
Day 3 Back
Day 4 Delts and Biceps
Day 5 off
Day 6 Quads, Hamstring and Calves
Day 7 off
I try and do abs and 20-30 minutes of aerobics on the off days if I have time.
You take supplements? I am currently using whey protein (bars and powders), glutamine, creatine and flax seed oil. Works pretty good for me.
Mad props to your dedication.
Check out www.bodybuilding.com, the forums provides lots of good info. There are some diesel asians in there too.

My training schedule is a lot like yours.
Day 1 Chest and Tri's, Abs
Day 2 Back and Bi's, Abs
Day 3 off
Day 4 Quads, Hams, Calves, Abs
Day 5 Delts, Abs
Day 6 off
Day 7 off
That's my workout plan, but it changes a lot during the week when something comes up, but I always keep things in that order. I don't do much cardio. Just 10-12 minutes all out on the bike before a workout. I have a very fast metabolism so I have to take supplements in order to keep my weight up. I take creatine and protein. Currently trying Nitro-Tech and Cell-Tech. It has really worked for me for some big gains.
Mad props to YOU for YOUR dedication. I think at my gym I have only seen 3 or 4 Asian bros and a few Asian girls; including me and I'm mixed!
Thanks for the info, I'll check out that site.

question 1 : when you do curls, does it matter if you palm is facing you or away from you. That is to say, does it after which muscle group you are exercising.
question 2: are supplements essential if you want quick recovery or is the nutrients from foods enough?

Hey Helicopterr, welcome to YW.
Answer to your first question:
Barbell Curls done with your palms facing away from you primarily works your forearms and an area of your bicep called the brachialis. Barbell curls done with palms facing you works the bicep region.
Answer to your second question:
If you just started a weight training and you eat cleanly, it should provide you with enough protein and carbohydrates to grow and recover from workouts.
If you're an intermediate or advanced lifter, supplements (especially protein bars and shake) help, but is no subsitute for eating right. Because at this stage you have build a solid muscle foundation and need a higher protein intake to maintain an anabolic state. The general rule is you need 1gram of protein to 1lb of lean muscle mass to sustain muscle and anywhere from 1.5grams -2grams of protein for every 1lb of lean muscle mass to ensure muscle growth (which is called "the anabolic state"). Protein shakes and bars help in contributing to your necessary protein uptake.
You can tinker around with other supplements after a few months of training. I would start out with:
1) Whey protein. Make sure it's whey protein since it is the cleanest and most easily absorbed form of protein. Get both the bar and the powder (for shake mixes).
2)Creatine. There is still some hoopla about this. I think it depends on the individual on how your body absorbs it. It works for me. Creatine increases muscle phosphocreatine content. This allows you to lift more, more intensly and fatigue at a slower rate. There is a specific way and time frame to take creatine. If yo do decide to take it, read the instructions carefully. Creatine also been known to cause muscle cramps, so be careful.
3)Glutamine helps increase protein metabolism and it helps minimize the breakdown of muscle tissue.
Hope I've been of help.
