Well-placed sources in the administration are confident Bush's decision will be to get out.
According to Robert Novak, Bush will probably pull out of Iraq if reelected. This could just be wishful thinking on the part of Novak or his attempt to rally the paleo-conservatives behind Bush for the election.

Robert Novak and Pat Buchanan. The Constitution Party and arguably the Libertarian Party. I'm sure that many Republicans in Congress are closet paleo-cons too.

I doubt it. And if he does, he's an asshole-idiot times 2. Kerry is if he gets elected and pulls out as wel. If you make a bloody mess, you clean it up!

Rice: U.S. will stay in Iraq (http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/riceu16.htm) (...forever -- my comment)
May 16, 2005 * By NANCY A. YOUSSEF * Knight Ridder Newspapers
BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told the Iraqi government yesterday that U.S. forces would remain until the fledging nation ''can defend itself,'' but more violence throughout the country suggested that was not imminent.
On Rice's unannounced daylong visit, 24 bodies were found in two separate locations, all killed execution style and some beheaded. And a car bomb in Baqouba narrowly missed that province's governor; while a second bombing in the city killed four people and wounded another 24.
At the same time, Rice said that Iraqi forces are progressing toward securing their own country and containing an insurgency trying to thwart the new government.
''The strategy for the transfer of responsibility to the Iraqi security forces is to equip and train the Iraqi security forces as quickly as possible,'' Rice said. ''Our promise to the Iraqi leadership is the multinational forces are here to help Iraq defend itself until it can defend itself. We want that to be as soon as possible, I assure you.''

They desperately want to leave but can't. Can't go, can't stay. Need a draft but promised not to start one. This is what Bush has done to this country. I laugh because we reelected him. We have to live with our stupid decisions.

We consider it one of the more boneheaded moves our peers have done, but I think the people who it really should impact could care less.
