i really love Indian food. and while i like the Indian restaurants i've been to, no one of them really stuck out to me as exceptional. HK has some great Indian restaurants at ChungKing Mansions.

i'm spoiled when it comes to indian food.
the first time i've had indian food was
my friend's mom's cooking.
and nothing really beats that.
i haven't really found a place i can call
fantastic either. they're all okay.

i love samosas. if you go to indian
markets they sell it in a bin by the
cash register for a dollar each.
and they're huge.
i like it with tamarind sauce.

In Houston, if you like vegetarian foods Madras Pavillion is the place to visit. Love their Dosai.

In SF -
Naan N' Curry - cheap and greasy but good, a bit sour though
Pakwan - Pakistani - try their tandoori lamb chops, it's the shizzle
Shalimar - everyone talks about it, it's just ok iny my opinion
these are all around O'Farrel and Jones

In HK -
new delhi club mess - i think, this was in chungking mansions, you're gonna want to deck those touts blocking the entrance of the building though

In Malaysia -
man, every indian place i went to was good in malaysia

I'm not a big fan of it -- at least from the ones I've been to.

It seems like all the ala carte dishes were smuthered in sauce. Are there ever any vegetable plates without it?

Anyway, Berkeley has a few. They all seem classy.

Khana Peena (http://www.themenupage.com/khanapeena.html) on Solano, across from
Adjanta (http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2810358-adjanta_berkeley-i)

But the place in Berkeley that always seems to have a line out the door is Breads of India (http://www.artist-at-large.com/breadsin.htm) on Sacramento.

The sauce is the main focus of the dishes. I used to be under the impression that the sauce was coincidental and that they were just skimpy with the meat.

I'm not sure about vegetables with no sauce - you certainly won't find any stir fry like things.

There is biryani - rice with other stuff - which is sauceless

grilled stuff - tandoori things - they usually don't have sauce

OK.

Don't think I can get used to it, then, since I want a little more texture than just the sauce.

You take a Thai dish like "yellow curry chicken" by comparison. You got your sauce, but you've also got a fare amount of chicken and potato.

Had a similar Indian dish, but the sauce was creamy and the chicken just wasn't there.

Anyway, enough of me ragging on Indian style.

My friend's mom makes the best coconut curry chicken and his dad makes the best chicken BBQ. It's ironic since they don't eat meat, but can cook it like nobody's business.

I can't say I've been to any good Indian restaurants since I've only been to 1 and that was somewhere in Cambridge (I was stuck there at my cousin's graduation). Tandoori chicken was their specialty, I passed on that dish.

for anyone in the DC area - Cafe New Delhi in Arlington. 1041 N. Highland St. it's got the best Tandoori chicken i've ever had and the rest of the food was great. it's a bit pricier than the average Indian restaurant in the area though.

hey that's my favourite Indian restaurant in HK! i know exactly where that is. ChungKing Mansions has the best Indian food. but a lot of locals, especially girls, are afraid of going there because it can be pretty ghetto.
