in HK i do. but in the states i don't. homeless people in the states look like millionaires compared to homeless people in HK.

shit which reminds me... i was planning on taking pics of HK homeless people, but i never got around to it. <sigh>

i dont. altho there have been times when i've gone grocery shopping... and having a homeless person asking for money outside... i gave them my bagels to them instead. i feel more comfortable offering them food.. rather than my own money...

Sometimes depending on how the person is.

>> i run...run like the dickens...

>> most bums swagger past me all drunk muttering about the world ending or calling me a "pretty lady". needless to say they scare the crap out of me. id give money to the homeless teenagers though...but then again id think theyd be better off at home =/.

I've talked to alot of homeless people a lot in the crisis center. A lot of them are intelligent beings who have been through a hell of an ordeal in the past. Yes, some of them on the streets seem drunk and scary looking, but it doesn't mean they should be marginalized (i think). I honestly don't give money. I give them the hotline number and the homeless hotline.

don't run from the ones in j-town. cause they'll chase. scary.

i used to give a lot of money to them--when i was a kid. then during college, i learned that they could just go to a homeless shelter for food...so most of the money just goes towards drugs and cigs...so i'm kinda torn between giving and not giving now...

i don't give any money because people don't give me money.

Theres a homeless guy who stands outside my restuarant a lot. He's really cool to talk to and he's pretty polite for a homeless guy. A lot of times, I give him my free shift meal or whatever. It's cool cuz he actually appreciates it.

But I don't normally give them money unless I stand there and talk to them a little or they're nice about it. I don't want to fund other people's drug habits when I could be funding mine.

i dont because i think they'll just use the money for drugs or alcohol.

if their homeless it must mean they deserve to be that way and its all in Masta Plan. ;)

hmmm... i wouldn't necessarily agree with that. and alot of homeless people are actually homeless because they have mental problems that makes them unable to function well with society.

I've split my lunch with homeless folks before -- usually just folks that are *hungry* and donated to some orgs in the past, but I never give money out to anyone directly. Especially the pretend homeless kids who really hail from the suburbs or addicts.

fuck em!

How dare they wake me up from my nap on my 45 minute subway commute! How dare they violate my space for the duration of my train ride! How dare they take up 3 subway seats when they did not pay for them!

I'll give money to musicians and performance artists though.

I do however buy stuff of the shopping cart from the elderly asian lady selling stuff. I've seen her alot on the 7.

I once bought a $5 porno called "Triple Pluggers, from her. My smallest bill was $5, felt sorry for her because it was raining. I didn't really need anything, my smallest bill was a $5 and she didn't have change (so she says).

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I give them the lunch I brought from home. Sometimes I feel like a jerk and pre-empt as they approach me by asking them for money before they can ask me.
