It's been about 6 months since I've touched a car or anything so I was a bit excited when my cousin was installing some springs for his friend.
Off to the races!
Got the car on jacks.
Pulled out the impact wrench, *riiik riiik* 3 lugs gone, 1 left. PROBLEM. There's no fucking rim lock key! We both look at each other and say "oh shit!" So we're like, yeh yeh, we've done this before, but to drag out the MIG was just a pain in the ass so we we're gonna find a different way first. I grab some Channel Locks and clamp the first lug lock, didn't budge. Okay fine. Next I picked up a self locking plier and clamped that shit down to the lug lock. After 2 attempts at getting a good lock, I muscle that shit down and the lug actually *MOVED!* Hurrah! hurrah! We were so excited, you should have seen our faces. We move on to the other lock lugs and were finally able to get it taken care of. I worked the pliers while my cousin tried to ram in a 16" socket or something and force the lug off with the impact wrench. Basically, he loosened the lug and I untorqued the rest.
That was fun.
Next.... we had to cut the brake line calipers and pull off the strut assemblies. This went real quick although my cousin's 3 yr old was hanging onto his belt. The only problem here was that the struts were busted and everything had to be replaced.
We ordered a set from Autozone taht came through later in the day. Unfortunately, those idiots gave 4 front strut inserts. Idiots. Next day, the rears came in. However, one of the rear boxes was open and it turned out to be a completely different insert. This particular insert sat about 1/2" above the strut housing - it ain't gon' work!
I was doing something else while my cuz finished the car, but when I left, there was still that 1 strut assembly that had to be buttoned up.
I miss my MR2. I miss working on my car. *sigh*
