It did.

But considering his lifestyle and all those general factors involving men his age, it was par for the course.

He'll definitely have a lot of well wishers.

One of my favorite pastimes is seeing how the right wing blames Clinton for everything. It didn't take long for conservative radio shows to speculate today that Clinton timed this on purpose to steal focus from Bush's speech at the republican convention. Idiots.

I hope President Bill get well soon!!!

Clinton is even a political wonk near surgery.

Mr Clinton may be about to undergo heart bypass surgery, but he spent 90 minutes on the phone with Mr Kerry over the weekend urging him to reinvigorate his campaign by attacking George Bush on bread and butter domestic issues such as jobs and healthcare.

From his hospital bed, Mr Clinton suggested Mr Kerry shift the focus from Vietnam to the state of the economy, the New York Times reported. The paper added that Joel Johnson, a former senior White House aide, delivered a strategy speech at Mr Kerry's headquarters over the weekend detailing the new line of attack.

Clinton Recovering From Heart Surgery (http://www.kwwl.com/Global/story.asp?S=2264204)

September 6, 2004 - New York

(AP) He's not quite alert yet, but doctors in New York say former President Clinton is awake after undergoing successful heart surgery.

Doctors say they performed a "relatively routine" quadruple bypass operation, lasting about four hours. The lead surgeon says everything seems "straightforward" and that he would expect Clinton to leave the hospital in four or five days. The medical team says if Clinton hadn't had the operation, he likely would have suffered a "substantial" heart attack in the future.

The former president went to the hospital last week, complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said in a statement that she and daughter Chelsea are "deeply thankful" to get good news after going through what she termed an "emotional roller coaster."
