The same actress - the guy pops in at some stage. Don't wanna give the story away!
I quite liked Windstruck. I watched it 'cos my friend told me that it was a sequel to Sassy Girl, but it's more like the prequel. Just like SG, it's spunky, funny and entertaining - and I didn't shed a tear at the end. Jun Ji-hyun is so pretty!!!

I just saw the movie and I really liked it. Any other recs for somebody who like both this movie and My Sassy Girl? The movie isn't a prequel, although the female character, while different, does share that same spirit as the one in My Sassy Girl.

I might recommend Daisy. It's from the same writer/director Kwak Jae Young, and stars Jeon Ji Hyun again. It's not lighthearted, but it has a good, dramatic plot.

True, but it's not really a prequel- in the 'prequel', she's a cop and in sassy girl, she's a college student. But, I can understand why people might think of it as a prequel.

Oh, I've been watching a lot of Korean stuff on YouTube lately and I just watched that although I think the director of Daisy was the one who did Infernal Affairs. Good movie, although not as good as Infernal Affairs and I think the movie kinda wastes Jeon Ji Hyun's charms and talents. No actor wants to be limited to certain roles, but I can think she's at her best when she's doing those screwball comedies like Windstruck and My Sassy Girl where she plays that very animated, quirky character. I don't know if her english movie Blood will be the best introduction for her to american audiences. But, her english is surprisingly good- I was watching this k-drama where the korean actors are speaking english and I need subtitles to understand what they're saying in english.

it's sort of a prequel -- because of the ending providing something that would be similar to the backstory of the first one. i think they're just giving a nod to it as a tribute to the fans. there is what is supposed to be a sequel to My Sassy Girl, but the stories are not related at all. I think it's called The Classic or something.

You're right. Kwak Jae Young just wrote the movies, but he didn't direct all of them.
My friends and I met Jeon Ji Hyun in NB club in Kangnam in Seoul. One of my buddies got her to tutor him in Korean. She's very sweet, and yes, her English is very good.

why couldn't she have quit being a cop and then started going to school?

Or, maybe she could get another Korean star, Kwong Sang-Woo, to beat any students who don't pay attention to their tutor.

But, that would still make her character older in Windstruck than the character she played in the MSG. Plus, the final scene in Windstruck doesn't exactly match up with the opening of MSG. I think that scene was supposed to be a inside joke, a shoutout to the fans of MSG, rather than being seen as something that made the film a prequel ot MSG.

how would it make her Windstruck character older than her MSG character? i don't recall either movie ever mentioning her age.
Windstruck is NOT a prequel to MSG - the director just threw in some connections to appeal to MSG's built in audience.
Here are some films along the same lines.
"My Girl and I"
"My Scary Girl" (aka "My Sweet, Yet Brutal Sweetheart")
"My Boyfriend Is Type-B"
The 1st one is probably the most like Windstruck/MSG - romantic comedy/melodram, the 2nd film is more of a dark, understated and yet very funny humor (probably the best of the 3 films) and the last is just mindless light fun.

Without the connections to My Sassy Girl, I don't know if this movie would have been as succesful. For me, that final scene was the best part of the movie. I heard Hollywood has also bought the rights to this movie as well but they'll probably wait to see how My Sassy Girl remake does first. But, I don't see how a remake could recapture the magic of the last scene. You'd need MSG remake to be a blockbuster and capture the audience's heart, get the same actor and actress to reprise their roles for that scene, etc..

In MSG, the guy, who's still in college, makes a big deal that she treats him so informally even though she's younger than him. If she ended up becoming a police officer and doing that for several years before retiring, she would have then been older than the guy.

so he was in college. i don't remember them mentioning how old he was. plus i think they mentioned he had already done his mandatory duty to the South Korean army.

In Windstruck, JJH's character remained a cop (and actually got promoted to detective) after her bf got killed (for at least a while).
In MSG, JJH's character has been a student for a while when her bf died.
Plus, in MSG, neither she nor her parents ever made mention of her dead twin.
The thing in MSG that didn't make sense for me (yeah, I tend to analyze things) - wouldn't CTH's character have gone to his cousin's funeral (where he would've met JJH's character) or been upset about the same time over his cousin's death?

Seriously? I thought Windstruck was awful, a good example of how bad movies can be without decent writing. And bringing in the actor from My Sassy Girl at the end seemed like a cheap shot at trying to turn around the audience from an otherwise depressing but pointless ending.
