Charles Stone III on Tekken Movie
Source: IESB
Friday, August 27, 2004

IESB asked Mr. 3000 director Charles Stone III about the big screen adaptation of the popular video game Tekken.

"It will not be anything like Mortal Kombat or any of the Lara Croft movies, says Stone III. "You will get the feeling of Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon. I want the audience to get to know the characters, so when they have to battle each other it will be more dramatic."

Regarding what talent we'll see in the film, he added that "Both Jet Li and Jackie Chan have been loosely attached to the film but were now thinking of starting clean. It will have plenty of 'A' list actors."

They are currently in the scripting stage and production may begin next year. Read more of the article at the link above.

So long as Jean-Claude Van Damme is nowhere to be seen, it'll be alright.

unless you're a good director and a serious fan of the videogame, a Tekken movie can't be done successfully...

If he can do a decent job with the movie, then the old boy gets my full support..as long as it's not Uwe Boll, I'm satisfied....he actually seems to know somthing about the Tekken mythos.

My Mum beats me on Tekken ... :O(

Er ... would 'A' list actors really want to do a film based on a beat 'em up? Especially one currently without a script? What list is he looking at?

bah, i bet its gonna be like 10 whites, 2 blacks and an asian woman as a slap in the face because technically it fulfills "the quota" but its an asian woman and therefore "safe"

Actually the dude directing is black, so I'm hoping he'll attempt to make it as accurate to the game as possible, since he does seem to know a little about the storyline and all. So long as he has King, Kazuya, Nina, and Yoshimitsu, I'm happy.

love the game but to be honest i dont know how to turn it into a movie without making it fluffy like mortal kombat, i think as a game the plot was serviceable but even the game endings sometimes didnt wrap up the storylines much

yeah, but didn't the AvP director also say he was a hardcore fan?

i think a decent movie could be made if it was based strictly on the heihachi / kazuya relationship and the 'inheritance' of the mishima corporation. its a straightforward story, but there is the chance to touch upon filial and identity issues...not exactly original subjects, i know, but when has an american movie ever done that with asian actors? (god, do not mention joy luck club).

anyway, given that's what i think a tekken movie should be like, i honestly hope this movie isn't made. even if the director is great, hollywood will fuck it up somehow. queue tom cruise and kelly hu...

more than likely it will focus on paul, though i loved his counter-throw move where he grabs the person when they are striking and throws em with their arm/leg

ditto kelly hu, maybe she can make fun of kazuya's dick or something
