That's odd, I saw that trailer at the cinema on Saturday and thought "I must not see this. End of story."
And that Mr. Incredible character reminds me somehow of Steve Ballmer :/

Ehhh, to each their own....I'm a fan of Pixar's stuff. Their track record precedes them.

LOL, was reading this review at that ain't it cool site a while ago...this character really seems to enjoy it.
-------------------
Never really sent you any kind of film review. But I thought what da hell. I'm a friend of an employee and had a the good fortune to attend the Pixar employee screening of THE INCREDIBLES this past weekend. Please call me "Silver Serf...er"
Just so you know what kind of taste I have. My favorite animated film is Spirted Away. I'm a big Pixar Fan and comic die hard. Favorite other Superhero flix are Spider-man 2 and X1 and X2. THE INCREDIBLES is a welcome change from all that.
Here are my impressions. I'm NOT going to get plot specific or give anything away really. Just want to give you the big scope.
This film is charming...and quite fantastic. It is also a HUGE departure for Pixar. When I say departure, I mean this film is Brad Bird's breaking of the normal Pixar/Disney mold. Some may not like that….even though I for one loved it. NOW I KNOW what it must have been like to have picked up Fantastic Four #1 in 1961 on the newsstands after reading years of goofy Batman and Superman.
- The film is essentially early Fantastic Four meets early James Bond. The first half is slower in its story set up..with the 2nd half a mind blowing roller coaster ride!!! I liked the first half...but I think it will be a little boring for some really little kids as the story is set up…but HUMOR really keeps the first half alive. To me…this movie is as close to a Fantastic Four film as possible. As for that lame ass FF movie in production right now...well they may want to pack up NOW and head to the mysterious blue area of the moon.
- This film has no "buddy buddy" thing going on. Movies like Toy Story did that well...but they get real annoying in Disney flicks such as Mulan. So, for those sick of the Eddie Murphy thing, or Billy Crystal giving zingers and one liners every two seconds, this film is for you! Interestingly enough, the idea of "side kicks" is very much explored in this film, but has a VERY WELCOME twist.
- The Incredibles is much more violent than any Pixar movie with big explosions, shattering buildings and "Die Hard" like fear in a couple scenes. Now for me…I thought this was GREAT! Finally!!!! The CG movies get cool!
- This is not an origin movie in the traditional sense. Every goddamn superhero movie has that token origin. Incredibles is a "After the Fact" story. It's thematic, reflective…kind of like when you read a great comic like EARTH-X.
- The flashback scenes of other heroes…are marvelous.
- The CG and FX are amazing and what everyone has craved to see for a long time. Elasti-Girl and Dash really steal the show with their powers. In fact, the movie really comes alive when Elasti-Girl jumps into the film (signaling the 2nd half of the film). Also, people's hair really stand out for some reason. Violet's hair in particular was great--like a character unto itself in the way it reflects her shyness. Her hair was like Asian Hair. Amazing that you can pick up a texture detail like that in watching a CG movie.
- The "Not enough Frozone rumors" are indeed true. Amazing FX on his powers and movement. What a great character. Needed more of him.
- The movements of Elasti-girl - whether stretching, protecting the kids or just moving stealthily. Bravo! Soooooo god dern cool...
- The frank and panicked family discussion with Elasti-Girl explaining to the kids that people want to kill them. This sent shivers down my spine!
- The family interactions are perhaps the best part of the movie--and they're consistent in both the 1st and 2nd half of the film. Both funny, and so real!!!
- There's a tribute to the FF in the end is great!!!! Won't spoil it for anyone - but tis great!
--Pixar tagged on a great Incredibles segment at the very end of the credits. I assume they'll leave this in the public release. It's so damn funny!!!!!!!!!!! STAY IN YOUR SEATS UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE FILM TO SEE IT. You won't regret it!
- My only question is a rather pathetic one. It's in the Oliver Twist manner. Please, sir, can I have some more?
'Nuff said.
--Silver Serf..er
Dude mentions that the character of Violet's hair is very well done, and he calls it "Asian hair." That just cracked me up.

I'm ready for this tomorrow. The reviews have been raves, and The Iron Giant was one of the best animated movies created in my opinion. Though it does kinda borrow from other genres such as The Watchmen, with superheroes being sued and having to go into witness protection and all that. Plus the Star Wars Episode III trailer is attached.

This might just be the second movie I will ever see to get up in the morning to watch before coming to work, just to skip the idiot crowd that will undoubtedly ruin it for me with sold out shows, talking and screaming babies. The first was Matrix Reloaded.
Can Pixar do no wrong? They're like the Yankees...when the Yankees were winning, that is!

Edna Mode: fashion designer to the superheroes
One of the reviews I was reading earlier says that she's half German, half Japanese.

And Edna's character's voice over --
A dude named Brad Bird (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/movies/2002079770_incredibles03.html)
Besides writing and directing, the director also acts in the film. No, Craig T. Nelson voices Mr. Incredible, and Holly Hunter voices the spunky-yet-maternal Elastigirl. Bird, by contrast, plays Edna Mode, the diminutive, half-Japanese, half-German designer of superhero costumes. Part Coco Chanel, part weapons designer, she's a genial autocrat. Self-doubt is not in her emotional repertoire.

See, now this is how Spider-Man and the X-Men should've been. It was funny at times, but a lot of times it was dead serious. This was a lot more mature than Pixar's other flicks...the stuff happening here is no joke, people get killed, and are trying to kill. They took a lot from Marvel and DC characters, particuarly Fantastic Four and Superman.
Favorite scenes -
When Mr. Incredible calls Buddy "Brody" on accident...Jason Lee does Buddy's voice, so that's like a real subtle in joke
Scene with Syndrome, Mirage, and Incredible where Syndrome is trying to convince Incredible to kill Mirage to call his bluff
Elastigirl's speech to her kids about Saturday morning villains vs. real world villains
---------------
I shall definitely be seeing this one again over the weekend.

I saw it last night. It was great! With Pixar movies it's always hard to compare one to the other because they're all so damn good, but for me this one is up there with Toy Story.

Your comicbook geek head ain't all that ugly. Now those 40 something guys with ponytails and beards that wore Incredibles t-shirts to the showing...that would be classified as ugly heads.

The family interaction is great and they react quite naturally to the given circumstances that they find themselves in. I especially love when the two kids are fighting at the dinner table and start to use their power!

I didn't stay till the end because I had to take off, but I may see it again tonight or tomorrow. Also, that one scene where Syndrome has them all captured and discovers that they're married, then the camera pans over to the two kids and he remarks, "and got BIZ-ZAYYY!!!!" I kid you not, that had me on the floor laughing like an idiot.

I got a chance to see it with the kids. Overall, I liked it.
Things I didn't like:
The multitude of trailers that preceded it. Holy hell there were a lot. I estimate about 15 minutes of them. Including the scary fact that a Winnie the Pooh movie will be out. But what got me was this short film about a lamb and a jackalope. Jesus! Just start the damn movie.
Dash was great, but I found something phoney with him. Alright, so the whole movie is fantasy, but I think they missed something there, nonetheless. If he's got the speed that he does, then his fists will either crumble or crush the bad guys' faces when he hits them as fast as he does. Seems like a simple matter of physics.
Pick thin waists. Violet, Mirage, and Helen had 'em.
Other than that:
Did anyone notice Elasticgirl's behind? Reminded me of Trinity's from the Matrix.
I also like there reference to "San Pablo", early in the movie where some chase was taking place.
San Pablo Avenue, in the SF Bay Area, extends some 8 cities. It seems like there is always some chase on it.

Hahaha... the movie totally ignored physics. :)
damn, i missed the secret ending bit too. I loved this movie but it was incredibly dark for a kid's movie.
i really enjoyed the lamb and the jackalope.

^ But the physics thing: that's what makes the movie sort of funny for me.
Here's this kid who can propel an Elasticgirl made boat, carrying his sis Violet, with his super fast treading legs.
And he's able to run faster than machines with his arms keeping pace. But he can't put a dent in the face of these bad guys.
I loved the movie, too, though. I think the movie had a lot of mature themes that probably went over the kid's heads, too.
But there enough cute bits for the kids in the audience to laugh, too.
edit: spoilers bad. -kitty.
it was okay. better than shrek 2 and shark tales at least. i liked the ending. how the baby saves the day by going ape shit on syndrome. and the thumb tack scene. haha. the scene at the dinner table is also hilarious.
edit: spoilers bad. -kitty

There were actually several references to Emeryville (Pixar's location), San Pablo being one of them. In fact, in the opening chase scene when Mr. Incredible looks at his "GPS", it is actually a map of part of Emeryville. If I find a screenshot, I'll post it.
And if anyone cares, I posted a review (http://www.starkdavingmad.com/archive.php?blogYear=2004&blogMonth=11#368) of the movie on my site.
I also like there reference to "San Pablo", early in the movie where some chase was taking place.
San Pablo Avenue, in the SF Bay Area, extends some 8 cities. It seems like there is always some chase on it.
The jackalope short at the beginning is an integral part of animated movie history. And movies for that matter. Shorts often preceded movies, since these vignettes couldn't really be screened alone for general audiences. There was a revival around the same time Who Framed Roger Rabbit? came out -- Tummy Trouble before Honey, I Shrank the Kids, and Roller Coaster Rabbit before Dick Tracy, to name some. They just gave you a free story as a bonus, hardly something to complain about. It's a wonderful tradition and I'm glad Pixar is keeping it alive.
The trailers were getting out of hand. The Revenge of the Sith trailer was a total letdown. And the Pooh movie -- where was Eeyore?
Anyway, the movie is fantastic. The stylings encompass all comic book ages, from the pulp 20's through the post-nuclear Golden Age. Samuel L. Jackson's character hinted at a socially-conscious 70's Silver Age. A couple people were confused with the multiple eras until I explained it to them. When Mr. Incredible looks up at his magazine/newspaper wall it kind of explains it as well. Lots of things for comic book geeks while remaining completely accessible to everyone.

Yeah, people were asking what time period this movie was set in, and honestly, it's all of them. Some of the stuff is taken from the '50's, 60's, and beyond.

Thats' right, I forgot about that. That sort of confused me.
It got me thinking, "just how old is Bob Parr?"
Originally, we see Mr. Incredible in what looks like the 50's, but could be the 60's. I guess witch hunt he indures is remiscent of the communist witch hunt of the 50's. But when he gets around to having kids, kids that aren't that old, its like way later. Now either he's got very good genes and can have young kids in his 50's or so the time reference was off. You happy, Kitty?

This joint was gooooooooooooooooooooooooood....
The trailers were getting out of hand. The Revenge of the Sith trailer was a total letdown. And the Pooh movie -- where was Eeyore?
At least you guys GOT trailers! It must be a regional, time of day or individual theatre thing. I went to a midafternoon showing in Battery Park with barely 15 people in a stadium theater, only got the Pooh trailer, then went straight into the "Bounding" short (which was fucking GREAT, by the way)...I wanted to see my ROTS trailer big-assed in THX, dammit!!
no matter, I'll be seeing this again, in a diff cineplex...I just needed my first show sans the talking, yelling idiots who go during the pre-bar hopping hours!
I stayed thru the end, but what was the surprise animation at the end of the credits? I didn't see anything except the Disney/Pixar closer animation bump. Are we seeing two different versions for different audiences at different times of the day?

I loved this movie, I laughed out loud so many times in the theatre, I know people in front were turning and staring at me, but I didn't care, I had so much fun at this movie. I think Dash stole the show, some may disagree, but he seemed to be having so much fun!!!
The short before the movie was cute too, and the Star Wars trailer, which should have been exciting, seemed to tell me that the last installment is going to suck. They showed a shot of Anakin as Vader already, doesn't that seem a little desperate, pulling out the big guns so early??

I mean, basically two or three of their powers are already portrayed in this joint and the directing/writing couldn't have been more top-notch.

Did I spot a visual mistake in this movie?
There's that part where the Icredibles are returning back to the mainland in that motohome (or whatever it is) that is coming in for a crash landing.
As that motorhome lands, you see the scenery behind it (buildings or something) appear all warped. I don't think that was supposed to look like that.
