CHINA'S NEW HAIR IDOL
The hairiest man in China is planning to become the country's newest rock star.
Yu Zhenhuan's hair covers 96% of his body and he has been a phenomenon in China since he was born.
Every inch of the 26-year-old's body is covered in a fuzzy matt of hair apart from the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet.
He has his own website www.maohai.com - or Hairboy.com - as part of a drive to land a recording contract.
"I hope to prove myself and others wrong in singing some day," he said.
"Of course, in the beginning, people will say, that's just 'hairboy' singing. But I want to rely on my skills to make it big."
Yu plays the guitar, is learning the saxophone and says he is planning to move beyond singing cover versions to writing his own songs.
He is covered with an average of 41 hairs per square cm of his skin - a condition called atavism.
He said he hoped that others with difficult physical conditions would be inspired by his readiness to seek publicity.
"If I had a choice now, I would want to keep all my hair," said Yu. "It's become my pride and not a burden."
Yu is surpassed in the hairiness stakes by a pair of Mexican brothers - Victor "Larry" and Gabriel "Danny" Ramos Gomez.
They are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having 98% hair cover.

i know this is going to sound soooo ignorant BUT...when i saw this, of course i was shcoked by the amount of hair he was covered in but i was realllllly shocked that he was Chinese...if he was Indian i woulda kinda just thought well, they are hairy folks (trust me they are!!) or even if he was Greek or somthin....but i always was under the impression that Chinese and most other South East Asians do not suffer from the hairy gene...i was obviously wrong!!

No, he suffers from some kind of genetic hairy disorder.
He's not "regular hairy".

It's a disorder called congenital hypertrichosis lanuginosa or congenital hypertrichosis universalis. The first documented case was in earlier 1600s in Spain, I believe. People with this disorder were dramatized in literature "werewolves" and side-shows.
Greeks, Arabs, and Indians are not the ones with the hairy genes. Blonde people have the most hair per inch.
Also, it's incorrect Yu Zhenhuan is not the hairiest man in the world, maybe China. The hairiest men are two brothers, Victor and Gabriel Ramos Gomez of Mexico.

I've seen some. Even some in China with big full beards like Santa Clause. Not that many, though...

It is currently "taboo" for young AMs to grow beards out, though. Not to mention, many probably can't, anyways.

Another article:
China's 'hairboy' aspires to be rock star (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3585295&thesection=entertainment&thesubsection=music)
...
Yu made his entertainment debut at age 6 in a movie called A Hairy Child's Adventure.
But he recalls a time when he preferred not to face the music. Yu spent a tough childhood amid much finger-pointing.
"People laughed at me and called me 'caveman'. I used to throw stones back and fight them as a kid, but now I've grown up and learnt how to endure it," he said at a Shanghai hospital after ear surgery to remove hair that was impeding his hearing. He has had five other operations to remove hair and repair his gums.
Yu, who uses the name "woolboy" in English for his email, is covered with around 41 hairs per sq cm of his skin - a condition called atavism.
"I used to take it to heart, how people looked at me and said things about me. But I realised I needed to be more thick-skinned. When people tease or despise me, my best defence is to use my own abilities to prove my worth in society."
...
In reality, how popular could he really get?

That's like...an oxymoron or something...
Most Asians usually don't have a lot of body hair, right?
