The Superman movie has hit obstacle after obstacle. But, talks are still up about who should play Supes, should a script ever be penned.
Who do you think would make a good Supes? I think Brendan Fraser. He is huuuge and could buff up his physique enough for it.

AT LONG LAST....THE SECRET REVEALED!
After rumor upon rumor posted online about Warner Bros.’ reintroduction of the next “Superman” movie franchise, and just who will be playing the part of the Man of Steel himself, LatinoReview can now put to rest the biggest rumor of all… Just who is “Superman”?
Director Bryan Singer had recently mentioned to AICN that he is committed to casting an unknown. Thanks to our same source 'Anonymous,' who has given us the ‘firsts’ on castings on Fantastic Four, and Batman Begins, we now have info on Superman.
The man who Singer has picked to play Clark Kent/Superman is none other than a relatively unknown actor by the name of Brandon Routh (Seen here in the photo to the right dressed in his own Superman outfit on Halloween last year).
Brandon's name has appeared on the web as being a possible contender a few month’s ago, but most recently appeared on this Iowa based TV website. Click HERE for that.
According to stats posted at IMDB, Brandon ‘B.J.’ Routh stands at 6’ 2” and just days ago celebrated his 25th Birthday on October 9th. Sadly, this is the same day that “our” Superman Christopher Reeve had fell into a coma and later had died. And Routh was born in Iowa, which is the same state that George Reeves was born, one of the original silver screen Superman stars.
Routh had some bit parts in television roles on “One Life to Live,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Will & Grace,” and “Cold Case,” and recently wrapped his first film role in an indie titled “Deadly,” starring alongside Laura Prepon, Misha Collins, and Tess Harper. The actor’s next role will have him undoubtedly put to the test as he has some very big red boots to fill.
And as for Bryan Singer, come June 2006, he will have to make all Superman Fans believe that this kid from Iowa can fly. But if you can recall back when Singer was just starting the now hugely successful “X-Men” movie franchise, he had bet the farm on a then relatively unknown Aussie named Hugh.
Official announcement is forthcoming but you can take this scoop to the bank, Brandon James Routh is Superman!!!
And don’t even bother e-mailing me for any more possible castings or storyline revelations. I don’t want my ass thrown into the Phantom Zone.
-----------------
Won't be offical until Monday, but I guess this is the dude they're going with. I'm cool with it, since he ain't that well known and he does look like a younger version of the character.

'Superman' casts its Lex and Lois
Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth to take roles
LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Superman has found his Lois Lane and his Lex Luthor.
Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play the Man of Steel's plucky fellow reporter, and Kevin Spacey is set to play the superhero's nemesis in Bryan Singer's Superman movie for Warner Bros. Pictures.
The comic book movie would reunite the two actors, who currently appear in Spacey's "Beyond the Sea" as Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin.
The casting of Lane was a long process that ultimately rested on a chemistry test between the actress and Brandon Routh, who is playing Superman, sources said. Bosworth reportedly beat out the likes of Claire Danes, Linda Cardellini and Michelle Monaghan.
Sources said Singer wanted Spacey early on but that the Oscar-winning actor's commitment to London's Old Vic Theatre, where he is artistic director, caused scheduling snafus on the road to making a deal.
Spacey, who is in rehearsals for "National Anthems" at the Old Vic, will do a limited run of "The Philadelphia Story" at the theater before moving to the Superman movie, which has a March start date.

I could rip your shit in half, so show some goddamned respect, motherfucker. So let me ask you again, did you hear what I said, motherfucker???
Lois Lane: Superman...
Superman: Now Ms. Lane, I know you a smart motherfucking journalist and all, but you want to be careful with what the fuck you are going to say to me next. You do not want to fuck with me and I don't care even if you do have fucking kryptonite- I'll still paralyze your motherfucking ass.

If you listen to the trailer without seeing it you'd probably think it was a movie about Jesus.Wow. Thats exactly what I thought. Only when I heard Superman's father call him Kal-El, did I begin to wonder what role his father had to play in this movie.
Before, I didn't like the new guy but the trailer justified him.
Looks fuggin' tight! At last I have another movie to look forward to!
What the hell is that supposed to mean??
I'm looking forward to it too but I'm not as hyped as I was before when I realized that John Williams would not be doing the soundtrack. John Ottoman is. I believe the music we heard in the trailer is the theme for Superman Returns. I read in IGN that Bryan Singer wanted to use the old theme song for the new movie but that remains to be seen. I have my fingers crossed.
I closed my eyes and ignored Kal-El's father and listened to the music. Could this be the full theme? It reminds me of the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Unlike the theme from 2001, this Superman Returns theme sounds lacking. I'm hoping that there is a longer theme and that this was just chopped short for the trailer. I'm satisfied with the way it is now but I expected a little more. The use of fades went perfect with the music. The trailer is perfect. Thing is...I've seen a lot of perfect trailers of crappacola movies. Lets hope this isn't so with Superman Returns.
So is that Marlon Brando's voice as Jor-El? Are they actually using that old footage? The sound quality hints at it.
I got my answer by reading some more. My faith in Superman Returns has been restored after reading these quotes from a Superman site.
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184249
From IMBD:
He was offered a chance to reprise his role as Vito Corleone in The Godfather: Part II (1974) and Jor El in Superman II (1980), but he turned them both down due to his own credo that once he finished a role, he put it away and moved on. He turned down both films despite being offered three times more money than any of his co-stars.
What are ya - new to the internet or what? IMDB is a site that depends on fan submissions and anyone can post supposed news. that blurb about Brando is a bunch of crap!!!! Donner shot Brando's scenes for Superman II at the same time as his scenes from Superman The Movie. If he didn't want to do the sequel WHY ON EARTH would the footage even exist. I'll tell you why - because Brando had been hired for two films, and was a true actor's actor, he held true to his commitments to the movie - too bad the producers didn't. After forcing Donner to finish filming on Superman I before finishing work on Superman II, the Salkynd's changed their mind about many elements on the production of Superman II, including refusing to pay John Williams to return for the sequel, firing Director Richard Donner, and refusing to pay Marlon Brando.
now in breach of their contract with Brando - they couldn't use the completed Brando scenes (all his scenes were completed before Superman 1 was completed) - so they replaced him with Lara (Susannah York).
Donner was replaced with hack director Richard Lester, who tossed out half of the completed scenes including the original opening, ending, metropolis battle, Lois' discovery of Clark's identity, and the restoration of Superman's powers. Taking a far superior film and replacing it with cheesy ideas and crap filmmaking.
Margot Kidder spoke out again the treatment of her costars and director, and was punished in the third film for her public outcry by being mostly removed from the film.
Gene Hackman pissed as well - refused to return to finish filming and was replaced for his remaining scenes with a body double and voice double.
Brando FILMED the sequel. And he was brilliant. was he demanding - yes - but what good actor isn't. the only reason he didn't return in the sequel was not because he didn't want to - it was because the producers refused to pay him and broke their contract with him - Brando filmed ALL his scenes for Superman II. Try to get all the information next time before you spread lies from IMDB. there are hundreds of sites out there that know the truth. Supermancinema for one. Read about it.
Because no good actor wanted to be Jor-El?
Because it connects to the previous series in a decent way?
Because Marlon Brando was a great actor and rocked as Jor-El?
Because it's cheaper than paying a high-priced, big name actor today (*cough*Hopkins*cough*)?
WHY?
Because Singer is a HUGE Donner fan, knew that footage would never see the light of day, and decided to make the most of it.
Because he knows the fans want to see it too. and they deserve to.
I'm gonna have to say Samuel L. Jackson. Imagine it...
Superman: I'm here to fight for truth, and justice, and the motherfucking American way, you know what I'm saying?

'Once every couple years, the overwhelming task of editing and scoring a Bryan Singer film confronts John. For X-Men 2, John Ottoman did the job that took 5 editors on X-Men 1, and wrote the heralded score for the picture. This was the first time John had tackled both tasks on such a monstrous production with a hard release date. There were about four weeks for him to write 95 minutes of music for a 100 piece orchestra, as well as constantly being torn away from his writing to attend to the myriad of editorial post-production duties as editor.'
Ooh I loved X-Men 2's score. He'll do fine for Superman Returns.

SciFi Wire spoke with director Bryan Singer about bringing the late Marlon Brando back as Jor-El for Superman Returns.
To recreate Brando's version of the character in his new Superman movie, Singer said in an interview that he used "a combination of unused footage, used footage and recreated footage. You won't necessarily see Marlon Brando walking around or reanimated in a conventional sense, but you will hear dialogue that you have heard before and takes that you haven't heard before and a rendering that is completely new."
From BlueTights.net
How Superman Resurrects Brando
Bryan Singer, producer-director of the upcoming Superman Returns, told SCI FI Wire that he used every trick in the book to resurrect the late Marlon Brando and include him in the film as Jor-El. Brando played the role of Superman's father in director Richard Donner's original 1978 Superman movie. He died in July 2004 at the age of 80.
To recreate Brando's version of the character in his new Superman movie, Singer said in an interview that he used "a combination of unused footage, [used] footage and recreated footage. You won't necessarily see Marlon Brando walking around or reanimated in a conventional sense, but you will hear [dialogue] that you have heard before [and] takes that you haven't heard before and a rendering that is completely new."
Singer added that the Brando sequences are being created with "very raw material" culled from a variety of sources and locales. "A lot of the stuff was all over the place," he said. "A lot of the stuff was in vaults in New York [and] in Los Angeles. I got ahold of Brando's London [automated dialogue replacement, or looping,] session. I had very interesting outtakes, which are something to see. So there's a lot of material. It's great [also] to hear ... Dick's [Donner's] voice on the ADR sessions, on the raw material. There are a few really funny moments—we called them 'Brando bloopers'—where you hear Dick and [an uncredited writer] Tom Mankiewicz in the background. It's cool." Superman Returns will open nationwide on June 30, 2006.
Meanwhile, Warner Brothers announced that the teaser trailer for Superman Returns will debut during The WB's Smallville, airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nov. 17, and will hit theaters in select screenings of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which opens Nov. 18.

I was very excited about this until I saw the pictures. He looked like a mannequin or wax figure. He does. He looked okay in the trailer. I have a wait-and-see attitude about the movie. From what I've read so far, this is like an updated version of the Richard Donner Superman films. I originally thought it was going to be something new and different but its not. This bodes well for the franchise because the first movie was classic. If he looks like a mannequin or wax figure then I'll accept that because its looks like it will be a great movie. The same people who thought Johnny Depp looked like Michael Jackson still went to see Willy Wonka and enjoyed it.

Because I like to bring only the super important news to you -- behold! Superman's package was too super and will be digitally reduced.
God forbid we see a bulge on screen. Let's go all out on killing and body counts but under no circumstances shall there be bulge.
Ananova:
Superman's bulge worries movie bosses
The new Superman is giving movie bosses a headache - because of the size of his bulge.
They fear Brandon Routh's profile in the superhero's skintight costume could be distracting, reports the Sun.
Hollywood executives have ordered the makers of Superman Returns to cover it up with digital effects.
The Sun's source said: "It's a major issue for the studio. Brandon is extremely well endowed and they don't want it up on the big screen.
"We may be forced to erase his package with digital effects."
Brandon, 26, has taken over the superhero's cape from the late Christopher Reeve.
Wardrobe artists have had to fit him with a special codpiece for the new film out next year.

Going to go check it out tonight. Some things I'm not too fond of, like the Superman being the kid's father. Deadbeat Kal-El! I don't want it to suffer from King Kong syndrome, where it's way too drawn out and slow. I want some action.
saw it last night...
not happy with it being TWO AND A HALF HOURS LONG.
brandon routh either acts like cardboard or he's channeling christopher reeve, alternating between the two.
kate bosworth was worse than i thought she was gonna be, man the girl just cannot act. and it's just not believable that she's this hotshot seasoned reporter with a kid who looks to be about 7 years old.
nice special effects.

I'll see it for Kevin Spacey if nothing else. I'm a Spacey fan. His presence will keep me from spacing out in the theater. haha!

I like it. I like it a lot. I thought this is the best blockbuster film this summer. Kate Bosworth is definitely an eye-candy but her performance is not believable. I like the kid to play her son though expecially when he looks at his dad, superman. He gave a performance that says there is a connection between them even though he doesn't know that superman is his dad Parker Posey plays her typcial role to the tee. All and all, I didn't feel like it was two hours and half long.

At long last, the full trailer. Man of Steel kind of looks like Boy of Steel, but whatever.
Well, maybe he's not as manly as you but the demographic profile of most movie goers is fairly young.
And often Boys of Steel are more appealing to Young Girls of Squeal.

just got back from watching the movie.
i liked it, but i didn't think it was anything to get excited about. it was pretty typical of a Superman movie. i think it's kind of hard to totally fuck up a Superman movie as long as you have the budget for the effects. and also it's kind of hard to make it a movie to rise above the rest. the little twist they threw was cool, but it didn't significantly change the status of the relationship between Lois and Superman.
i really think they needed to explore the dysfunctional nature of the relationship between Superman and Lois. there are only 2 reasons Superman ever calls on Lois:
1) when the shit really hits the fan, and Lois is going to die any second.
and
2) hey Lois, interview me and tell the world how great i am.
the rest of the time he's flying off doing whatever the hell he wants. and talk about negative reinforcement. here's Lois, really wanting to see Superman, and she gets rewarded with an appearance when she's an inch from dying. that would drive a lot of women to developing a suicidal tendency to get attention.

I hear Kal Penn has no speaking lines at all. WTF?
in all honesty he didn't, at least that I can remember being substantial, outside of "yeah boss" sorta grunts
wtf was the point of casting him then? I thought he was picked b/c he would be like a wisecracking type but he didn't amount to much more than dumb muscle.
I liked the line about the birthday clown massacre though
allow me some dirty thoughts for I am mr. x:
Honestly if Lois Lane has had the supersex, how can ANYONE possibly measure up (snicker X3)I'd imagine she'd have passed out after the second one
and what was up with casting cyclops as lois lane's fling thing? honestly is that guy now typecast as a superhero cockblock?
gonna see this later on.
i was never really into superman though. i hope i don't fall asleep.
Anyone catch this in IMAX in 3D? Wondering how that is...

Whoever wrote that line needs to be shot. In the face. Repeatedly.

Only made 11 mil yesterday. Not a good sign. I still have Pirates of the Caribbean, Monster House, and Miami Vice to look forward to now. And of course...Muthafuckin' Snakes on a Muthafuckin' Plane.

^Speaking of which, I think they're the only film ever to have gone back to shoot additional scenes just to add in a line that fans wanted. I'm wondering: for a movie like that, is it possible to be overhyped?

the remake doesn't compare to the original.
screenplay (mario puzo), director (richard donner), cinematography + musical score, dialogue, charismatic lead actor (christopher reeve), intersting villain (gene hackman) are all much better in the original.
actually, while squirming impatiently through the viewing, i thought to myself that even the smallville cast and crew could do a better job, as smallville is also better than the movie in the aspects just mentioned, and isn't afraid to be original while still staying (mostly) within the confines of the superman universe.
the only thing the new movie added was special effects. everything else was a negative. 2 out of 4 stars.

Superman Returns was just OK for me.
it had no plot, no character development, no drama... *thumbs down*

My friend saw it. She came back raving about how hot Routh was.
Snakes on a Plane looks like a great date movie.

BS man man ! there is no monster to fight!! i'm getting bored with superman already!*shruk*
^ Superman movies have never been about fighting monsters. If you want monster fighting, watch Godzilla.
Saw this movie in IMAX 3D over the weekend. 3D effect was neat enough for the most part, but during a couple of the higher speed action scenes, it was hard to focus on the action. Although it was great to see Superman on the big screen with modern special effects, the movie itself was only okay.

^I'm getting into IMAX, man. Navy Pier has it, and I may try and catch Superman over there one day, and definitely Monster House.
On the 3D aspect of the film, I think it would've been better if they had time to process the entire film into 3D. As it is, only selected, short scenes are in 3D which probably doesn't give the viewer enough time to get used to the effect. Monster House in 3D will probably be cool though.

Watched the movie on DVD. Seemed long.
I hated Kal Penn's "silent" role.

More like "waterboys".
There were some spots, there, where I could see a spot for a clevor line that could have been given to Penn that woud have made the moment "his".
