Alright as nobody has written a review and i just wrote a loooongass spoiler for themoviespoiler.com i'm in a writing mode.

Alright umm well it's a good time to be had, most praise about the film is due to the direction and the chemistry between Foxx and Cruise. The acting is definetely where its needed and I guess what makes the dialogue work are the themes they present, namely loneliness in the big city (in this case LA). See Foxx's character is only "temporarily" driving cabs (for 12 years) so he can start a limo service ("like a club experience in a limo") and this dream comes into the conversation a lot whereas Cruise's character Vincent is charming but will kill anyone who gets in the way, innocent or not.

The two men are in a sort of marriage of convenience, Vincent needs a driver he can trust, and Max wants to stay alive, as "the plan" continues to spiral out of control. Im not sure if it would be a flaw to say you never find out if Cruise's Vincent has a true motive for doing what he does (no "they kidnapped my daughter Dakota Fanning and if i dont do this...." sorta explanation) i guess its that whole aura of rational evil. He believes what he does is okay cuz the people he kills are scum (but simply shrugs when he kills someone who doesnt deserve it)

as for the action scenes they are actually pretty quick but still satisfactory. longest one is in the oft talked about k-town scenes on this board and luckily there were no groan inducing scenes pertaining to koreanness or asianness. I didnt realize the koreans dubbed Ready, Steady, Go by Paul Oakenfold, you learn something new everyday.

anyway i focused on more of the acting and setup side and avoided synopsis cuz if you told the story in a "this happened then that" its much too straightforward, kinda like saying LOTR "was about a fight over a ring, short guy throws it in the fire, the end" its all about how the characters play off each other i guess. not shakespeare but a good time nonetheless.

any questions?

i saw it at 3:45 and lemme say ticket prices are appalling these days, i mean they didn't used to show commercials before the trailers and its MORE expensive now? damn id rather watch 30 minutes of commercials to be able to see it for like 3-4 bucks

that's insane. i'm at $8.50, and the commercials start 20 minutes before the theatre time, so you can skip them by going in when the movie starts. :)

Oh, really? See, over here in beautiful Indiana a movie will be advertised as starting at 7:30, and the commericals and previews reel begins AT 7:30, so in actuality the movie starts around 7:40-:45. And that fandango commercial....*shudder*

On the topic of Collateral, haven't seen it yet, but they say Foxx and Cruise both do oscar caliber work...I'm interested.

Oh, the commercials/previews didn't stop...(and they usually have to show the obligatory "Fandango" commercial)...

My ticket price was around $10.75...

There are some places in my area that charge as much as $12.50 . It's gross.

Yeah, it's to the point where I have to really be anticipating the film to pay the price I did...(which was actually $9.75 with the $1.00 Fandango fee--but still)...
HAH! You actually come OVER us by doing Fandango? We're like, $10.25 (in Manhattan) and I NEVER do Fandango! I'll do anything to avoid a crowded theater to see something good and if I get there late and miss out on a good seat, well...it's MY ass!

I'll peep this later this coming weekend. No money to spend on anything besides chow til Thursday and I've got a gaggle of movies to see...

Alright, since some of you already saw it...

I didn't feel there was actual "closure" with Det. Fanning. Yeah, he was shot, but....it was like "and...?" Who was Jason Stetham's character? What happened with Peter Berg's character? Bruce McGill's character?

Still, a good film, not perfect...but definitely recommended...

Not too mention, it was the weekend, so no using student I.D.'S...

For Collateral, though, it was worth it...
totally! jason statham reminded me of ahnold's appearance in The Rundown. but ahnold was there to "pass the torch" but im not sure why statham was there other than to do the switch

peter berg was a sidekick basically, and bruce mcgill, well i guess he didnt get that high profile arrest he wanted. i guess fanning's just well, yeah.

Ah, "The Rundown" (you know I own that film, and haven't seen it yet! I have to check it out for that scene to mentioned)....

Heh...

People are talking oscar calibre(for Collateral). As much as I want to say "Yeah!" I'm not seeing it....
hmm, well i think jamie foxx (not his real name i just read in the paper, its much more "joe shmoe"-ish) was pretty good for a kinda lowkey guy, tom cruise was competent too but the truth is when you've been around as long as tom cruise he's always playing tom cruise

Not a bad movie. Thank god Vincent doesn't get up to ge shot a second time, like in so many of these other "will never die" movies.
