View Full Version : Dog-eating People

This lady at the Promenade the other day was screaming at me from behind a table trying to get me and my friend to sign a petition. It was something about stopping people in Asian countries from eating dogs.
What the fuck?!?
Umm... okay, well, sure, I personally wouldn't TOUCH a bowl of bo-shing-tang, but FUCK man. Let em eat whatever they want!!! Do you guys consider it cruel to eat dogs? I mean, sure, dogs are the most common pets around, but some people have, like, pet pigs and stuff. And pork is like... the other white meat or some shit like that.
What if people in Korea kept crabs as pets and they started crusades all over the place to keep us from eating them. I mean, doesn't make much sense, does it?
And besides, I heard something about the slaughter of dogs to eat isn't allowed over there anymore, even...
[Edit: Oh yeah, and I told the lady to eat a dick and walked away. Normally, I wouldn't be such a bitch, but she gave me a dirty look. Probably because I'm yellow... and because it's "my people" who eat a lot of dog. But pshh... either way, it's fun to terrorize random nuts on the promenade.]

I have eaten dog meat at several occasions (as soup and as dog strips with veggies), it tastes a bit like beef, maybe. I don't think ethically it's any different from eating other animals.

>> i dont see what the big fuss is about over the consumption of dogs. how they differ from a cow or a pig is beyond me. just another dumb animal being slaughtered for food. american people derive enjoyment from playing with dogs...asians....get it from eatin em ^_^ all good in the hood man.
Though I wouldn't personally ever eat my own dog (well, maybe for $50k, and only if it had already died of something else), I would like to have the option of eating prime rib of dog if I wanted to. Americans are so friggin' hypocritical. If anything slaughtering a cow or pig should be seen as equally if not more "wrong" since they're bigger animals (and pigs are supposedly smarter than dogs anyway).
Anyone remember the stupid proposition that was passed in California a few years back that outlawed the transportation of live horses destined for consumption?? (That must've pissed off Jack In the Box!) I voted no.

Korean people don't eat turkeys because there are no turkeys in Korea. Perhaps my ancestors ate them all.
As for dog it tastes kinda good, but it's expensive. Ive been to a Korean dog farm and basically they live in little cages and eat dog food and bark at each other and stink up the place. I wouldn't say it's terribly different from any domesticated animal farm I've ever seen.
But one coorelation perhaps we could make is how a lot of Indians couldn't think of slaughtering a cow, while practically everyone else in the world does, but they don't go off hating the rest of the world because of it.
I think the reason this problem became so popular is because in some neighborhood some FOB KAs or illegals or someone actually ate stray and lost dogs. Then the people over generalized it and suggested that every KA does the same thing.
I remember some Korean restaurants in my area pissed off that the press did something like that with fears that it would attract fewer white customers, cuz face it, a Korean restaurant that attracts only korean people is bound to fail unless it is somewhere in Koreatown.

I’ve never eaten dog, but I would if I was given the opportunity. I raised pigs and cows when I was little. Cute little animals, but when they grew large enough I slaughtered them. Bacon and a big slap of steak mmmmmm. I can’t stand these activists either. I swear 90% of them are professional protesters and have no clue what they’re protesting.

Don't know the validity of it, but have read some sources before that mentioned a few places in Europe that have eaten dogs historically. I am sure there are better sources than what I have listed, but the following turned up on a quick search.

i'll check those links later, but the reason i asked whether or not you're being sarcastic is because Switzerland is one of the more outspoken countries against dog-eating, because their national animal is the St. Bernard, and in some countries they are eatened because they have so much meat, even though historically speaking that's not a dog that is traditionally eatened.

I'm not principally opposed to eating dogs (since I've eaten it myself at several occasions), but what disturbs me is that I've heard that the Koreans kill them in an exceptionally cruel way, I think they slowly beat them to death, because they believe that adrenaline improves the taste of the meat.

If you go to any McDonalds in Asia you always have Americans, these people travel all the way to Japan, Korea or China only to eat at the next American fast food joint (of course not everybody is like that).

actually the bulk of the foreigners I see in McDonalds in HK are usually either Nigerians or Filipinas. some Brits and Americans, but more often than not they're long term residents. I can't blame them, it's cheap and it's a change of pace from the usual. The tourists stay indoors at the high class Chinese restaurants. I'm not implicating anyone on this board, but I find a lot of the Americans who bitch about foreigners overseas who eat at McDonalds are just playing the whole oneupsmanship game - "look at how cultured I am, I'm talking trash about my own country's food." freakin petit bourgeois insecurity.

yo are you kidding? cantonese people are the ones that would eat anything. and it's not just the poor people that eat dogs anymore. i mean people especially eat unusual things at business dinners because there's a sense of exoticism in it. like rats or roaches and stuff like that. my aunt was at a dinner with a client once and everything on the table was made with rats. supposedly they were bred for eating, but who knows.
I'm convinced there could be a big high-end market for cloning endangered animals ... for meat. hehehehe. imagine how much some rich dumb businessman might pay just to show off to his friends and to claim he ate some really rare animal.
oh man you have no idea, i've heard stories about how they show off by buying loads of cheap wine at business dinners, but then they'd put all kinds of shit in it before they drink it, like sugar, or lemonade, etc etc. freaking mainland businessmen, there's so much male ego and gwan xi in doing business in mainland.

Americans in general are really whiny people that view anything "different" as wrong. It's weird since Europeans are generally more open so it's not a white peoples view...just Americans...
Actually a lot of Asians themselves seem to love nothing more than eating at KFC or McDonalds, not because the food is so great, but because it's American. And McDonald's or KFC is not "my own countries" food, in case you were refering to me with your remark on "petit burgeois insecurities".

eh, at least in HK, the locals go to these places not because these places are American. there're places like Dan Ryan for that. they go for the same reason that Americans in America go - they offer cheap fast food. don't believe all that corporate globalisation "look we have a McDonald's in a remote village in _______" american glorification bullshit.

There is a group of Asians (mostly teenagers, I think) who have excessive feelings of admiration for everything American. I don't really care, after all everybody is entitled to his or her interests of choice. I think this is the main reason they go to American fast food joints, the same way you often have American movie stars etc. on Asian advertisement billboards and more and more wealthy Asians are building houses in the "American" style. Outside of Beijing they are just building on a new quarter for wealthy Chinese that features houses found in any American suburb. At the same time the traditional hutongs are rapidly being torn down to be replaced by highrise blocks. Of course the same is true for other parts of the world as well. For example in Germany young people now like to celebrate Halloween or Valentines Day (which are no German traditions), not because they are such great festivals, or because there are no alternative festivals, but because they are American. At the same time traditional festivals are becoming less important. I think this massive cultural loss is a negative effect of globalization, maybe in the end there will only be one commercialized world culture and local traditions will cease to exist.

eh, i guess i can't speak for other parts of asia. HK's fascination with the states mainly pertains to just american pop culture.

As long as they're not torturing them before they kill them and eat them, I'm fine with it.

Honey, take it from a German - as long as there's people out there willing to get drunk, there'll be an Octoberfest.
