View Full Version : A guy's sense of humor - is it attractive?

There was some quote I read that said something like, "If you can get her to laugh, you're already made it half-way with her."
If a guy can make you laugh, is that something you look for in a guy and can it compensate for other things like looks, etc? If not, would you at least entertain the notion of going out on a date with him if you found him to be funny?

it's important but it also depends on the kind of humor you have and most importantly; if she feels chemistry.
You can be hillarious but if she doesn't feel that chemistry with you then you're just gonna be that "friend who's fun to hang out with"

Very very important. But like someone else said, it depends on what kind of humor. I don't want to date someone who thinks it's funny to tear people down or tell racist jokes. A good sense of humor can compensate for a lot though.

Fart jokes, then. Sexy?
More so than pulling out the finger from god knows where and declaring, "here, smell this."?

Dry humour interspersed with modern, knee slapping guffawery?

I've always wondered, is self-depricating humor, like Conan O'Brian a good or bad thing? I would think the girl would think he doesn't think much of himself and a bit insecure, and thus a bit of a turn off.

if i have to hear it A LOT i would guess

Alright, so if the guy can't tell a joke. Sure. But what if he doesn't even get yours?
Can a woman really be happy with a stuffy stiff?

Or he doesn't know how to humor you.
(You know, as in, okay so that wasn't funny, just humor her, dude.)
I like to encourage a sense of humor no matter how lame. Just as long as it isn't reprehensible.

The three funniest things in the world:
Farts.
Seeing someone get hit in the nuts.
Hitting someone with a pie.
The singlemost funniest thing in the world would be to see a guy get hit in the nuts with a pie and he farts at the same time.

What thaite speaks is true. There is nothing funnier than farts. I'm smiling just thinking about farts.

Right.
Like a good girlfriend would be somebody you could not only laugh and have fun with, but have good conversation with, and just somebody who understands you or you feel like could understand you.
Having said that, yes whichever one of the many women who fall at my feet every day I choose needs to have a sense of humor......................she don't have to be Wanda Sykes or nothing like that (actually I prefer she wouldn't be, just a little too loud and ghetto for me personally) but you know.....................somebody who does laugh...................and laugh at my jokes.

sometimes, you just can't make a person without a sense humor laugh.
but one thing you should never do,
poke a girl in the stomach and tell her shes need to hit the gym. You can do that to some guys but hardly to any ladies.

How far should a guy (or anybody for that matter) go with sexual/bathroom-type humor? Does it depend on the level of friendship/intimacy with that person, or would you have a overall standard for everything based on your own character?
Sometimes I'll be in the company of friends and/or just people in the know. The group will be mixed. And there will be one or two "outstanding" guys in the mix who will let loose with the bawdy lips and everyone's laughing. But I always wonder what the gals are REALLY thinking if the humor is questionably stretching the limits...like gossipy, "doing the dozens" type humor...like a guy saying something like "oh, yeah, that bitch Shondra, she got more open holes than a golf course."

It depends on the people- not all girls think dirty xxx-rated humor is disgusting.
I know one girl I can always depend on for nasty jokes- somehow a group of us got into the topic of genital piercings. This girl went off on how anybody would find a prince albert attractive. And then she went on about how, if you get your clit piereced, you have to stimulate it and the meantime she was making jokes about that, porn shops, masturbation, stds, rectal bleeding (we work in a hospital), so I cracked a joke about if some guy who came in with a baseball bat up his ass. She really enjoyed that joke. But the guy who was with us didn't find it too funny.

You hear the cliche that women love a sense of humor, but truth be told, it's way too diverse, as mentioned before, and it depends on the type of humor...and some girls just have no sense of humor at all, and it would be pointless.

But still, it's best to try and be yourself - I have my own sense of humor which I know not everybody finds funny. So girls either think I'm a total dork who should be castrated or they think I'm the funniest person in the world and they go around telling everybody that. Which places a huge burden on me...
I'm not going to act like somebody I'm not... it's pointless to because it would be no fun to hangout with a girl that we can't laugh together.
a sense of humor absolutely is attractive on a guy - given that he's already *somewhat* attractive to me in other ways to begin with. i just love humor period (goofy/slapstick, sarcastic, raunchy, etc), not necessarily as a meter for a guy's attraction, but in general. most of my friends crack me up.

A sense of humor is a plus. Everybody likes a good laugh. A little dirty humor is fine too, just as long as I don't have the urge to shower everytime he tells a joke...
