i'm so frustrated right now. the damn taxi cab operator has the balls to tell me in his ever so <grumbles>... indian accent that there is no 1340 willow road. what the fuck, asshole? how can you tell me that there is no 1340 willow road, if that's where i am right now? yeh. so i just hung up the phone cus i didn't want to waste my breath or my balls to catch on fire. i hate indian accents more than anything. i have a particular dislike towards them-- accents like the convenient store owners' in the simpson's..

you should listen to 'kick my dog'. :)

but seriously, even though you're frustrated at a person sometimes, don't blame it on their race or ethnicity--or anything related. the cab driver probably was an arrogant ass that didn't know what he was talking about--but try not to associate that with his accent.'

if someone hated me, i'd rather them hate me for something i said or did or stand for. but not because i look, smell, or sound chinese.

kasia: yeah but maybe it is a cultural thing. i've had many similar experiences with indians. like the time I was holding an HK-dollar denominated travellers' check in my hand, went to the bank that issued the travellers' check to buy more, and had the teller (he was Tamil, actually) tell me that there were no such thing as foreign-currency travellers' checks issued by his bank.

not to say all indians are rude. but it is a good thing to note and try to analyze, culturally speaking, if one notices a disproportionate number of people with the same trait, as long as you don't jump to broad-based conclusions about it. no use in being politically correct and covering it up by saying "all races will conduct this kind of behavior."

yes, but what does one's accent have to do what you are saying?

What I don't understand is how amie can't stand Indian accents but loves the Italian New Yorker accent. Any East Coast guy's accent (the thick accent) is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Especially like Jersey or Cambridge...

Therefore my East Coast accent most likely annoy others. <_<

It rears it's ugly head in three situations:

#1 I'm in New York or talking to a New Yorker (or someone from the Eastern seaboard - depends)

#2 I'm drunk. Which doesn't happen often.

#3 I'm mad as hell. Which I try to avoid.

If you think they're sexy watch some Judge Judy. That should cure you.

*wink*

Not all Indians are that bad. It's kinda funny tho, when I go into a 7-eleven (can't forget the gas stations) or something, I usually expect one of those guys (Indian, ARab, i dunno sometimes i can't tell the difference) to be an asshole due to prior experience all over LA + Orange County, but some guys are really nice and they take time out to talk to you whereas the typical guy slams your money on the counter and gives you the eye.

I like some Indian accents, although I'm not sure of which.

They are almost melodic and a lot like some West Indian accents, which I also like.

good : free lighters and ice from the Indian at convenient store

bad : got death threat from Indian cab driver coming back from the airport . . .

Apparently he was pissed that he only got a 15 min fare, I woulda tipped him 100%, but instead I got his ass fired :D

Hrm, I lived with an Indian family for 1 month. Wasn't the greatest. Only the son had no accent and he was sure glad he didn't have one. I was able to put up with it to a point. But eventually, it was the a certain smell and a certain spice that I was allergic to that eventually convinced me that I should reconsider my options. Like moving to LA. :P

I always thought the chinese accent was more ridiculous then this indian one.

you get upset w/ the use of the word 'yellow' but it's okay to throw a tempter tantrum on some one's accent?

not cool.

i'm pretty sure she doesn't think that now man. As SWK said it was posted one year ago, can we at least give her a reasonable doubt before jumping down her throat?

sorry... i didn't see the original post's date as it was resurfaced just recently...

in all fairness, i'm surprised that something like this wasn't locked back then. or at least sent to the archives to avoid such misunderstandings.

just my two cents. ;)

the way things are ran nowadays has changed since the way things were ran back then. :) YW has become stricter over time as the size of its membership grew.

but you have a good point about closing.
